Not sure what the whiners are whining about.
Yes, you have to solder the connections thus 4 star instead of 5. Other than that, it's a nice study plug when it comes to cigarette lighter plugs. Used it for my Lowrance Fish Finder and works perfectly. Lights up to show me I have current.

They are quality product
These plugs are much better than most lighter plugs.

Great to have
My seat warmer plug broke so I needed to replace it. This is an awesome option to have to fix it. What a life saver.

Works, but design flaws that could be improved.
I would first like to say, this does work, and it seems to work pretty good. I use mine on the end of a 12 volt air compressor after my last one (different brand) melted after using it.. The wiring used is 16 gauge wire.I put the new end on the air compressor, ran it for 5 to 10 minutes, and the plug never got more then slightly warm the whole time.. The plug comes with a 15 amp fuse in it. It was easy to install, which requires some soldering to the ends of the connections, and I had no problem there. The things that I did not like.. First, the prongs on the 2 sides are separate.. Any of these that I have used in the past, the spring pieces on the sides were one piece, not 2.. This means, if the side the wire is connected to does not make a good connection, the other side does nothing but help hold it in place..With the LED light, since all it does is tell you that it has power, you do not have to use it. With how tight the space is, I did not like the idea of using it, so I unsoldered the connection, and then pushed the wire flat against the case so it was not toughing anything. The reason that I did not like to use it.. First, for the LED, the setup requires a resistor to lower the voltage to that of the LED.. Resistors can get hot over time, and with it being so close to the wiring, I did not feel safe taking the chance of something happening because of it..Another thing I did not like was the way that the wires attach.. Most devices, if a wire just slides in, the wire is usually wrapped around something to secure it to the case, so if it gets pulled, the pressure is being put straight on the case.. With this one, there is nothing to secure it to the case in any way, so when you pull the wire, the pressure is being directed straight on to the connections where they are soldered. While it does work, I do not like this kind of setup for anything that may get tugged on regularly.. Mine is 16 gauge which is not too bad, but what if you were connection, say 10 gauge wire?? A thinner wire like that could possible break if it gets tugged too many times.I am including 2 photos, one where you can see the way it comes, and the second one will show you how it looks with the wiring installed, or soldered, onto the connections.. You can see how much spacing there is, and how the wires are run.In the end, it does work, so i will use them.. I also like the fact that you get 2. For me, I am going to keep the second one as a spare, so if this one gets broke, as long as the wiring and connections are good, I can just take them out of this one, and put them in the new one, and not have to solder them in place again..

Middle of the road eqipment
This is a fairly average 12v plugg a bit on the "less expensive" side. Difficult to work with. I would not purchase again unlss I find myself between and rock and a hard place.

Doesn't fit my 2011 Forester outlet
Tried to plug into my 2011 Subaru Forester, and it did not fit into the cigarette lighter outlet. Also tried in my wife's 2016 Prius, and again did not fit.

very sturdy, no instruction, hard to solder
My car tire pump cigarette lighter plug broke, so i needed a replacement plug, and I decided to buy this. It came in a plastic pouch without any instruction. One needs to unscrew the top pin, remove the fuse and spring. Pry the collar, and take off the screw, which allows the body to split into 2. inside, you see the base terminal and the spring plate connected by an LED and a resistor which is lit when plugged into the cigarette ligher. The overall construction looks quite sturdy, and 5* for the value. I am only giving it a 4* for sturdiness because the resistor wire was really flimsy and snapped easily (note: it's 5* for the plug itself!), and 3* because it was difficult to solder the pump wires to the terminals (need to sand them, and ended up snapping the resistor wire). In the end, it works fine (without the pilot light), and my tire pump works again like a charm. There are similar models that come with lead wires, but I like the clean look of DIY soldering. I just wish it was not that troublesome.

A bit tight to wire for 15-20 amp service
I bought this product to replace the 12v plug on a set of Wagan Pure Sine Wave inverter cables for a 150 watt inverter, These cables are probably 14-16 AWG in order to handle the 12-13 amps or so it will draw from the 12 VDC power plug when the inverter is operating at its 150w rating.. This replacement plug is virtually identical to the one it is replacing and this pair was supplied with 20 amp fuses. The only difference is that the Wagan OEM plug's wires were spot welded to the plug's contacts. Spot welding was clearly the best way to assemble it to prevent internal shorts because of the VERY TIGHT internal clearances for this plug. This product has an LED power indicator wired between the (+) and (-) contacts which combined with the size wire and the tight internal space, makes it INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to install (solder) the wires on this plug. The 2 contacts wired to the LED were the only ones suited for attaching the wires. Fortunately, the LED and its associated resistor leads are made of sufficiently stout material to tolerate the handling that was necessary to pull this together. My past life experience includes some precision repair work and aided by a "helping hand" tool was able to get it done.. It really came out very well, much to my surprise. I'm mixed about this plug being used to handle 15-20 amp service, but I think the materials it's made of is reassuring..I think the plug's internal clearances make it better suited for service calling for 18-22 AWG, wires, but someone with finer soldering skills and lots of patience can make it work. In retrospect and had I known about them, the original Powerlet outlet and plug -- stouter, with more contact area and easier to wire -- would have been better suited for my application albeit at a cost of about $30 for a single plug and outlet.I would like to have included a photo to show the small clearances, but I ain't taking it apart again unless it breaks!

Good quality
Good quality, but as other reviews say, very fiddly to solder if you arenβt used to doing that kind of work

Excellent plug!
Well-designed and easy to install (some soldering required)

Good, but comes with no wires.
Good product, however it should be clearly noted that these do not come with wires. You must dissasemble unit and solder on your own. No problem for people with the equipment and knowledge, however should be stated more clearly for those that can't do it.

Disappointed
Not much room for soldering also it's made of hard brittle plastic.
