Does not come with the centrally required Micro:bit
I am a sucker for youtube videos where you have people making weird and wacky things and at the core of a lot of these builds are electronics and coding skills. I have neither so I thought this would be a great opportunity for me and my nephew to do something together.I got this kit and I must say I was very excited. You get lots of different components including a buzzer and a servo and instantly the little builds I thought I could make with him were endless. Then I realised a couple things.1) it does not come with the Micro:bit which as I understand is the 'computer' on this platform2) it talks about things like putting your code in the editor which makes some assumptions that you've done this before and this is an expansion kit for those who have done the beginner kit.So I have 2 qualms really. Firstly although it does say does not contain the Micro:bit and I can't argue with that, it definitely could be clearer. And lastly it calls itself a Starter kit but by definition it is not a starter kit because it assumes prior knowledge (and it is missing the core component).Nonetheless you can tell the product is quality and more importantly, the learning tools are quality.I have ordered the pieces I need and hope to revisit this in the near future to work with some of the many components included in the kit.

A non-starter without the micro:bit board...
ELECFREAKS microbit Starter Kit for Kid Micro:bit Accessories Basic Coding Electronics KitSuch a shame to be honest with you, a starter kit without the main key component, the 'micro:bit board'! Maybe I should've read the item description more clearly as it does state 'without board'. I wasn't initially aware and myself and my son carried on regardless constructing the 'buzzer' circuit, only when we had finished the circuit on the breadboard did we realise the main component wasn't in this kit.As such I'm not fully able to review this to the full potential but can comment on the product as is. If you're are interested in this field the you can buy the 'micro:bit' on Amazon for around £30, here's the link: BBC micro:bit V2 Development Board, Blocks and MicroPython Code The kit does come very well presented, inside you'll receive the necessary components to construct various projects. The instruction manual is extremely very well laid out, easy to read and understand with the circuit diagrams clear and understandable. The breadboard is well made and the components were easy to place in, the board strips are numbered so as to ease in the construction. You will require 2 x AAA batteries for the battery box. Most of the components are stored in a lockable component box.Overall, it looks to be a promising kit, just wished I had read the item description more clearly although I know I'm not the only one, still, maybe this needs to be made more noticeable on the product page.Recommended if you have the 'micro:bit' board.AmazonCustomer B09QPVC3WT 210522 BBC micro:bit V2 Development Board, Blocks and MicroPython Code

No Micro:bit included
This ELECFREAKS starter kit is ideal to help enhance your children's mental and motor skills. The kit is designed for children who are beginning to learn about electric circuits and programming knowledge. They can use this micro:bit basic DIY kits to create or complete more experiments such as traffic light, use photocells to control the mircro:bit screen and more. There are 24 kinds of electronic components to help you start, including an LED, button, buzzer, temperature sensor, trimpot, servo and motor etc. It supports Makecode graphical programming, JavaScript programming, Python and other programming methods. It also offers 14 cases to enable users to master the principles of electronic circuits, components, and basic programming.I’m always looking for somethings that can enhance my son's mental and motor skills, that's why we thought we would try this to improve our son's intelligence not only by reading books but also, in other ways that are more hands on. This is an impressive kit, apart from the fact it does not include the key component which is the Micro:bit. It does state his in the title and description but is still a bit of a letdown. All in all, this is good for children’s learning, but a bit annoying having to buy the main part needed separately.

Excellent add-on for a Micro:bit but the instructions could be better
This is a comprehensive kit of good quality components. The instruction booklet is nicely presented but short on detail and in less than perfect English. I don’t feel younger children would cope without quite a lot of assistance in interpreting the instructions – hence one star deducted. You do need a BBC Micro:bit, of course. If you don’t have one, a Micro:bit V2 kit costs about £30 – good value vs. almost £40 until recently. That’s on top of the £40 for this set. You’ll finish up with a terrific outfit for any child with an interest in coding or electronics. You can then add supplementary kits to build a range of things such as rovers, smart watches (not practically wearable) and model smart homes. If you haven’t a clue what a Micro:bit might be, search for YouTube videos on the subject. There’s lots of helpful advice and guidance out there. The Micro:bit makes a first-rate educational gift for a child of just about any age from perhaps 10 years, and this kit is an very useful add-on to help them learn about electronic circuits. Ideally, they’d already be working with the Micro:bit at school, or at least involved in coding and/or electronics.

Does not come with key micro-bit component
This is a great kit to get kids (and kid-ults) into electronics. It comes with a variety of parts from wires, connectors, resistors, motor, LEDs, etc. However, we fell at the first hurdle - which was very disappointing for my young son - as it didn't come with a "micro-bit" - this is the micro computer that lets you programme the circuit board and components. Without further investigation, it seems like it can only be used with this (I'm possibly wrong). How can this be sold as a starter kit without the main starting component?!?Soo....the micro-bit is between £20 and £30 and I sourced the micro-bit v2 off an ebay reseller for about £22. We're still trying to make it work. Files wouldn't transfer to the device with a Windows 10 PC running antivirus software (AV software seems to be the issue as it worked fine on my Mac). anyway...we've successfully factory reset the device for another day.
