Aside from being such a bargain, this little handheld welder makes it easy to get into stick (arc) welding. It's fairly lightweight and shaped like a power drill, which makes it comfortable and easy to control. Bright, clear digital display shows the adjustable amperage, up to 90. It is hot-start, which is great on such a small, inexpensive unit. There's an onboard cooling fan, and the whole thing will auto-shutdown if it overheats.It runs off of ordinary household 110, but it has an inverter. So it is a DC welder, designed primarily to be used as DCEP (DC electrode-positive). The electrode holder attaches to the positive top terminal, and the ground cable attaches to the bottom terminal at the base of the handle. (But the electrode holder and the ground cable connecters are interchangeable, on the off chance you ever need to do any DC electrode-negative welds.)It comes with five 6013-equivalent rods (all 3/32" size), which are very forgiving and create welds that are plenty strong for most DIY projects. It can use 7018 rods as well, and the electrode holder accommodates from 1/16" to 1/8".The gloves and "mask" that come with it are kinda useless, but they do include a nice nylon drawstring bag, which is handy for your "real" gear (my leather apron, sleeves, and gloves all fit nicely into the bag).This is so much easier than setting up my flux welder, and way fewer moving parts. Great little grab-and-go kit for around-the-farm projects. And because the terminal connectors are standard, I don't see why you couldn't hook up a regular electrode-holder cable to it if you need to get into a tight spot or just prefer that for some reason.Highly recommend. Welding is dangerous, and there are lots of variables to consider, many of which are not immediately obvious. So please educate yourself first – and especially around how to be safe. But welding is also a lot of fun – so go for it!

Tried out for first time today after 4 days of rain and cold weather ( I only weld outside ). Gloves provided are junk, handheld welder mask was tossed in recycling but the welder is great. Easy to use, light weight, easy to start a welder, quiet. Too bad it isn't available right now especially at the price. I also have a mig welder and small inverter welder but this is so much easier and quicker. Definitely a good buy. Hope it lasts a while. I don't do a lot of welding but this is the best for the light work I do.

I need to take a welding class. This will be a great tool afterwards but I don’t know enough to feel safe using it. I need more info and some practical experience.

I bought this specifically for sheared hardware in the M8 to M16 range on equipment. I’m a mobile tech that works out of a van so 220V and gas is not really an option. Just used this for the first time and I’m super impressed. I don’t claim to be able to stick weld ( I tig weld and mig weld a lot ). And this unit felt natural and simply worked. Will it work for 10 years? Idk. But for the $70 I spent on it, it’s fantastic. At $190 per labor hour, how much did it really cost me vs drilling ?

Worked great first couple of uses but then it just got real hot and stopped working so figured just another waste of money with Amazon so I threw it away not worth the money it should have been half of the price it is

I had to try and repair some broken welds on an exercise bike. Since I'd never welded before and didn't want to spend a lot of money, I found this unit and given the price, thought I couldn't go wrong. I read the instructions, hooked it up and I was welding!So far, the repairs are holding - cheaper than a new bike!Great value and easy to use for small repair jobs. I definitely recommend it.

This tool is very portable. I was a bit specious about purchasing it, but I did not want a bulky machine nor would a small tack welder unit work for the project I had in mind. After browsing around a bit, I found this one. Since my project involved butt welding 1/16th inch plate, I did not need a really powerful unit and sort of picked this one. It did the job well! Struck an arc with a coated rod and ran a bead along the join zone. I hadn't welded since high school, but it all came back easily enough. Worth the money, and worked well right out of the box.
