Good if you expect consistent starts on your Natto!
What can I say? If you want to make tasty Natto, these are the spores for you! I've used the Nattomoto spores in the past, and had several failed starts. Once I found Cultures for Health, I have had multiple successful natto batches with no failed starts. I use the smaller sized soybeans , and the taste, texture, and stringiness of my Natto has been excellent with this starter.

Culture worked well with all types of beans
Was able to make other types black bean nato and adzuki nato using this culture. Turned out great.

No fermentation at all.
I tried two times. I had sterile equipment. Filtered water, no chlorine. Properly hydrated and cooked beans. Temperature regulated environment, not less than 100 F no more than 110 F. Proper aeration. On the first batch I was seeing no fermentation and the beans were acquiring a bitter taste. I added an extra packet to that batch. Still nothing. Second batch, smaller, was even more careful. Between 105 F and 110 F. Neither developed natto's signature taste, aroma, or slimy, stringiness. This product is bogus. Don't waste your money. I'm going to try a natto bean powder which users have said is still active and can make natto (available here on Amazon) and frozen natto from a local Asian food mart. Very disappointed.

Works reliably.
Follow the directions and it works like a charm.

Needs a measuring spoon
The spores seem to work well. I used them to make natto with canned black beans (no cooking required). However, the contents of a packet are far too much for one can of beans, or a small quantity. One packet will suffice for a very large quantity. The manufacturer should supply a small measuring spoon to use for making smaller quantities of natto.

Great
Works perfectly. Made some of the best tasting natto.

Seems to have worked, but spores may not be super-active *UPDATED: Worked better 2nd try
I followed the instructions using organic black soybeans. I prepared the soybeans in my pressure cooker (InstaPot), and since they were sterile after cooking, I just waited for them to cool down in the pot. Once they were cool, I added the Natto Spores as instructed on the package, and switched my InstaPot Duo to the Low temperature Yogurt setting (it has 3 settings, and I wanted the 100F setting, which stays on for 3 hours). This would be the perfect setting for the Natto. I let it go 23 hours (instructions say to let it go from 22-24 hours). At that time, I took a look, and it had the white coating on top of the beans as expected. Dipping a spoon in, I saw SOME of the stringy material, but not a lot like you see in other pictures. Also, the beans had no noticeable odor. My guess is that I got some fermentation in 23 hours... but they weren't done. Since I had to go to bed, I stopped the fermentation rather than let it go another 8 hours - and put it in the fridge. The good news is that these beans are extremely easy to eat... Some people say natto is repulsive, but this doesn't taste much different from regular soybeans to me. The negative is that I think the spores I received were a little "weak". I will post an update on my 2nd batch - but my guess is that I'm going to have to let it go longer in order to get a full ferment. UPDATE 12/17/2022: The bag comes with 4 pouches, so I made my second batch starting yesterday. This time, though, I let it ferment for 26 hours instead of 23 hours. When I opened the yogurt maker this time, the final batch looked A LOT more like what I've seen in other peoples' photos: thicker, stringier slime and lots of white on top of the beans. My guess is that you might want to let it go even longer than 26 hours if you want it to be "thicker". I'm pretty happy with what I got from 26 hours, so that will probably be what I do from here. Also worth noting is that there is definitely an odor, but not anything repulsive - so I'm happy that this product is better than I initially thought with my first attempt. If I decide to keep making this, I'd buy this product again. I also increased my rating by a star. UPDATE 12/27/2022: I went to make the 3rd batch, and that is when I had my realization why the 1st batch was poor, and the 2nd batch was good: the 1st and 3rd pouches had hardly any spores in them, but the 2nd had enough. Basically, there is inconsistency in this product. I'd appreciate it if the seller provided a replacement with the proper amount of spores. I'll see if I can make it work by increasing the fermentation time.

Black bean Natto
I bought this starter to make black bean Natto. It turned out perfect. I made it in my Instapot. You need to leave the seal out and cook it on the yogurt setting. The price was good. And it was easy to do.

I bought 3 packages, used one with no problems, froze one of them and in using the 3rd pkg had one packet work fine, one had the bottom cut off and the spores were all over the bottom of the larger pkg, one did nothing and am about to find out if the last of the 4 will do anything. Do not recommend.
