Serves Purpose Well, No Smelly Litter, But No Setup Instructions & Thin Material
I really enjoy this disposal system. It didn't come with any assembly instructions, but it was easy enough to figure out how to put it together. I bought it together with the Littermaid LM980. It is very sanitary and there is NO STINKY LITTER SMELL. It also raises the Littermaid up off of the ground so my two little dogs don't even try to get into the litter anymore! The inside of this cabinet is basically one big open space partitioned off into two sections. I use one section to store the litter scoop and litter and I use the other section for the included waste bag system and to store the Littermaid Waste Storage containers. The cabinet itself is very light and easy to move (when empty and without the Littermaid) once assembled. It holds the Littermaid LM980 without any problems and is very sturdy. I removed the little carpeted ramp because I felt that there wasn't much space for my cats to land on when they jump up onto the cabinet before getting in to the litter box. With the ramp removed, my cats happily jump up onto the landing and use the box. Removing the ramp also makes it easy to wipe any excess litter from the top of the cabinet.I also decided to not use the included waste bag system. This system works well and if I didn't have an alternative, I'd happily use it. For this review, I will describe the waste bag system and what I use as an alternative. The Waste Bag System:The waste bag system is essentially one long plastic tube tied at one end. The used litter falls into this tube inside the cabinet. When the litter has filled that bag, you can pull some of the plastic from the box dispenser, tie it with included twisty ties, and then cut the plastic above the twisty ties. Now you have a sealed bag with used litter in it to throw out into the garbage. Tie off the end of the cut plastic and pull it to the bottom of the cabinet and you're set. It takes about two weeks with two cats to fill.My Waste System Alternative:I didn't want to rely on buying replacement dispensers once the plastic has run out. Instead, I use the bucket from the cat litter. I use the 40lb bucket of Scoop Away cat litter from Costco. Scoop Away has stopped using their bucket for probably a year or two now, but I thought way back when they were using the buckets that keeping those buckets would come in handy later down the road - and sure enough they did! I ended up cutting approximately 1" - 1.5" off of the top of the bucket so it would fit inside the cabinet. Then I lined the bucket with a plastic garbage bag. The width of the bucket fit perfectly between the two wood brackets that are used to support the plastic bag waste system. The bucket slides all the way in so I can completely close the cabinet doors and I still even have use of the bucket handle when I slide the bucket out. So once the bucket is full of used litter, slide the bucket out, tie off the drawstrings of the garbage bag and bring the bucket with the garbage back out and dump the bag in the trash. I put a new trash bag in, slide the bucket back into the cabinet and I'm set for another two plus weeks.I'm sure you can remove the brackets and use any bucket that will fit, which if you have a bucket to use, I recommend it.Lastly, I want to mention that the sliding doors are not in deep grooves... so when you are moving the cabinet, it is likely one or both doors will fall out. They are easy enough to put back in, and they stay in once you place the cabinet where it goes.Hope this review helps!

I love it - Six Stars!
I have had one of these for at least a year, and just ordered a second. I can't say enough for the convenience of the system. It works just fine. :My cats were adults when I adquired this, two of them seniors, and they had no trouble adjusting to it. My daily routine is to scrape the box, manually run the rake (by turning switch off and back on), and top with clean litter. Just remember to change the bag occasionally - it can get very full. It won't break if you lift from the bottom, but it can get a bit heavy. I put the tied off bags directly into the trash. We have 5 cats. Before #5 joined us, one box was enough for all 4. It was always clean, no odor. It is in the bedroom, against one wall, and we have a very pretty decorative 3 ft screen in front of it. When we acquired cat #5 (a foster), I added a second littermaid in our sun room which we can close off if we need to isolate a cat. It is behind a large potted fern, and now seems to be the favorite of all. Changing the receptacle every day is barely enough, so I am adding the disposal system. Will probably paint the stand, add another decorative screen and maybe a cover, since it is in a more public area. But won't have to worry about odor.

Love this product
I absolutely love this product. It was simple to put together and works great. I have run out of the blue bags that came with it, but just put a regular trash bag in its place and it still works great. I was so sick of changing the receptacles because I have two cats using one littermaid so I had to change them every other day. I was doing more work than I was with a regular litterbox and was thinking of just going back to that when I saw this product. Although I felt it was pricey, this product solves most of my issues with the littermaid and makes me love my littermaid. There is no smell and I like the storage size. It was well worth the money I spent.

Pretty good compared to the competiton.
OK, if you have cats (we have 4 of them) and you hate the daily tasks of cleaning up after your little darlings, then you have probably checked out self cleaning units like the Littermaids. Well, we have a ton of experience using these and the other brands and I'll share our experiences with you. I will tell you that our last L-maid lasted 9 years. We had an especially "heavy" day a while back and it gave up the ghost and the gears stripped in the mechanism. I'm really handy and took it apart to see how it works and what happened. The weak link in the unit is that there are nylon gears that make the cleaning bar work and they stripped and can't be easliy replaced and probably not by the user. So we got a new one, but also bought a SmartScoop to try that out too. Both work pretty much the same and I can't decide which I like better. So we are now using both on two different floors of the house. Work fine.I will give you some tips in using these units. I have read a lot of comments by users of both brands that they have problems. I have to tell you that a small amount of maintenance can really halp make these last. First of all, don't think that with any of these units you can just set it and forget it. The slots that the cleaning bar runs in get filed with litter and make it work a lot harder. Every day or two I run a finger or a cleaning brush down each one to clean out the litter. Really helps. Use some kind of small brush or whatever if you are adverse to using a finger. I reuse the bags for a week or two. I just dump the poops into a small plastic grocery bag and put the recepticle back and spray it with Lysol spray and spray the litter box a bit. Don't overfill the box and keep the slots clean and they can last a long time. Clean the tongs of the rake if they get clogged and once or twice a week scoop the litter completely with a hand scoop and dump that into the recepticle. Yes a little work will make the units last a long time. Also, with the unit that is elevated by the box underneath... Yes this puts the unit about 9 inches above the floor, and its ramp only comes down to the top of the box... Problem easily solved by taking the top cover of a copy paper box and inverting it and placing that just in front of the unit. This gives the cats a step up to get into the unit. Works great and our 4 cats of different ages all use it with no problem... As others have said, I use kitchen trash bags inatead of the expensive replacement ones they sell. I take four short pieces of masking tape to hold it in the slots of the original bag dispenser... Works great... I only change it every two weeks or more...
