Cuprinol 5L Spray Fence Treatment - Autumn Brown

Good. Somewhere between stain and paint.
I would describe the finish as somewhere between a stain and a paint. Its exactly what I was after. It was tricky trying to choose a shade from online descriptions so I've added a photo in case it helps others. This shade could accurately be described as terracotta. It has a very definite orange bias. See the photo in which I included a plastic plant pot - almost identical in colour. It was easy to apply. I used a brush for the first panel then opted for the much easier (but costly) sprayer.I'm happy with the results of this and I feel like its a trusted brand.

Wait for the results to show - it's worth it.
Like many other garden fences, ours was originally brown, then autumn brown, and finally this new Silver Copse. I sprayed my fence panels with the electric Terratek 650W spray gun TTSG650.This makes a precise finish and better than a brush or roller - in my opinion. Remember, this product is a stain, not a paint, and therefore it soaks and dries into the wood. The first coat seemed pretty pointless, and I was totally disappointed and really was not convinced it would cover the autumn brown?Overnight, it transformed and you could see a silver colour coming through. So, after coat 2 and 3 (one coat per day) the fence panels are a perfect silver copse, exactly as described by Cuprinol. The colour is amazing and worth the wait.

Absolute rubbish...
After thorough stirring before use, I noticed it was very lumpy when I pourced the container contents into my pressure sprayer. After using for a little while (i.e when the level in the sprayer had dropped) it became clogged and would not work. I had a lot of trouble cleaning it as all the jets and spray control was bunged up with thick slimey material due to the contents having coagulated. The inside of the pressure vessel was thick with material.

I shook the product for a good 5/10 mins as instructed but the solids still remained
I bought this to use in a spray gun and only wanted a pale green finish on my fences/sheds etc. and was aware of the issues.although it does say sprayable it is full of large lumps and solids. I shook the product for a good 5/10 mins as instructed but the solids still remained.I found that watering the product down almost 50/50 allowed the spray gun that I bought to spray without any problems.buy this knowing that you probably wont be able to spray it as it comes.

It doesn't last.
I resprayed a wooden decking patio and the patio furniture, table and four wooden chairs with the Cuprinol product purchased from Amazon. It was easy to use - after I stopped bothering with the pathetic 'sprayer' unit and just treated it like a normal painting job. It dried relatively quickly and looked good - until it rained, three days later! Then patches begin to appear where the previous, lighter colour began to appear - since then it has further degraded with every time it rains - totally ineffective compared to the original Cuprinol that I used ten years ago. A total waste of time and money.

One Coat!?
After referring to the coverage recommendations I purchased two tins thinking 10 litres would be ample for my fence…………it didn’t even cover one coat and that coat was so pale and patchy I doubt three coats would have produced the dark green I was expecting to achieve!I didn’t know if I received a rough batch because I have used Cuprinol products before, but I will definitely not be purchasing this product again. It’s not as if I can scrape it off the fence & return it!

It ran off my shed
This is a three star item!Firstly and understandably it is quite thin in consistency and that is necessary for the sprayer to deliver it, however, it is nowhere near as good as the product that you apply by brush; a bit like cheap paint when compared to one of the better manufacturers. It therefore follows that whilst I was able to spray my outbuilding significantly quicker than applying the product by brush, I reckon that it will not be too long before I have to apply it again. There is another thing. I applied this solution over existing cuprinol cover applied by brush about 5 years ago. What I found was that the spray "beaded" suggesting that the original cuprinol cover was repelling another cuprinol product. The result? well I had to spray and then quickly spread it with a large brush to prevent considerable waste as the spray just flowed off.I would say that once I mastered the process I saved a huge amount of time. if I were applying this to new wood I might be more impressed, but for someone who is familiar with cuprinol products I really cannot say that this is one of their best and whilst I appreciate the concept, it is unlikely to last anywhere near as long as their hand applied products, but time will tell.

It's an excellent product.....
Easy to apply and looks great...... Best way to apply it.... Important.... Don't use it on a really sunny or hot day.....Or it will simply bake on the surface.. 14 - 17'c is pretty much perfect.... And make sure the fence is DRY... Next.....For the best look, 3 coats.....But don't let each one completely dry..... So pick an area and a starting point..... And keep an eye on the bit where you started... Before it completely dries..... Put the 2nd coat on..... then the same again.....3rd coat...... The idea is that you want each coat to soak into the wood....before the previous 1 has dried...... Also.....Check the weather....As you don't want it to rain for a day afterwards.....
