A close shave :)
I thought I would live with this shaver for a while before reviewing it. My previous shaver was a Panasonic that had given years of sterling service which is what made me opt for another of the same brand. I have not been disappointed with this new one, indeed it has exceeded my expectations. Wet shaving seems like too much hassle to me so I only ever dry-shave and used in this way this shaver produces a good, close shave with the minimum of effort in just a couple of minutes. The lithium battery makes the device considerably lighter compared to my old model and the charge last for weeks - it is still not showing any signs of needing recharging since I initially charged it over 5 weeks ago! Admittedly due to laziness I haven't used it every day but the flip side of this is that on occasions I've had to tackle a 2 or 3 days growth and the shaver has made short work of it. It also comes with an attachment which turns it into a mini hair trimmer. I though this was a bit of a gimmick but having just used it to trim my eye brows (at my daughter's insistence!), it's actually quite useful and effective. All-in-all I'm very pleased, so far, with this shaver and can thoroughly recommend it.

Best electric shaver performance for my money
I'm a fan of Panasonic wet/dry shavers despite their acknowledged tendency to conk out unexpectedly after a few years. When they're working, the performance is second to none. If you read the reviews here or on any shaving blog, you will see there is a big divide between fans of the Philips rotary system and other, rectangular headed shavers. My father used Philips for years but I just couldn't get on with them. I still have one and I find they bring my skin up in a rash, especially around the neck area, don't deal with longer, flat lying hairs and they're not so good at getting into tight corners. Some say you should persist for a few months until your skin gets used to it - er, why? I find the Panasonic range is the best of the traditional electric razor shape (see my highly critical review of a Braun shaver to realise that not all are the same) and buying superseded models gets the best value. I've had three now and each one dies eventually. I suppose the rechargeble batteries have to give up the ghost some time, but it's easier to buy a new one than try to change the battery pack. Nowadays you can recycle the old razor too, don't just throw it in the bin. I've dropped a star on this model because the instruction leaflet covers two models which, despite being very similar, have very different charge warning light systems. Why they do this, god alone knows, but I think the one on this particular model is less informative. You don't know it's running out until it is just about to, rather than letting you see the state of charge as my previous model did. Other than that, it's a great shaver, light and effective, with the added bonus of an adjustable trimmer, ie not just a slide up cutter but a variable length guide too. That removes the need to carry a separate grooming trimmer with you when travelling. Great idea!

Crikey! The technology has changed in the last 20 years!
Crikey! The technology has changed in the 20+ years since I last had an electric razor. I had a top-of-the-line, Philips, 3 rotary blade shaver, which was okay for a quick fix, but useless for a clean shave to last a full day. This Panasonic electric shaver is absolutely brilliant. I trimmed my stubble back to 1mm and tidied neck and cheeks to start, 1mm is too short for me, but I will know next time and set it at 2.5mm. I was so impressed with the clean shave on my neck that I went the whole "baby's backside" and I honestly wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this electric shave and my usual Quattro, quad blade, titanium, wet shave! To be fair, I have soft, fine hair on my face and body, but its quite densely packed and it can tend to lie flat; but this Panasonic ES-RT47 coped really well, seems to lift (vacuum?) the flat-lying hair and cut easily. A coarser stubble may require more "passes" but I think it would also shave cleanly. 10,000RPM is quite noisy, less so when using the trimmer. But not intrusive enough to wake anybody in a neighbouring room. I have sensitive skin, but feel no abrasion or "tingling" following this first shave and I am absolutely delighted that I took the plunge and bought a new electric shaver, though in reality, I wanted it for the trimmer more, as a way of keeping stubble neat and tidy. This shaver does the trimming really well, but the clean shave is also superb, and for just £45, you cant go wrong!

For the price, a good razor
For the current price (£25), this is a good value electric razor that offers a very reasonable shave. The beard/sideburn cutter is a useful addition. I bought this rather than expensive replacement blades and foil for my venerable ES-SL41. It was a wise choice. Despite sharing spare parts with the ES-SL41, this is a vastly superior shaver. With a much stronger motor and greater charging capacity, it offers a much closer shave. It is a tad bulky but overall, am impressed. Charging is about an hour and a full charge lasts me about 10 days. I normally use it for a wet shave though it is also very effective when used dry. You also get a cleaning brush and a small bottle of machine oil. I also purchased the "Hermitshell EVA Hard case" which is a snug fit (see photo). My only gripe would be the cost of spare foils and blades which each cost almost as much as a new razor. That's disappointing.
