Portrait Photography: From Snapshots to Great Shots Paperback – 3 April 2014

This is great book, it helped me get started with this type of photography and to understand the elements require to take the perfect shot. It also complimented the information that I gained from taking a local course on the subject too.

This book explains the fundamentals of portrait photography in a very good and pleasing way. You would need some basic knowledge in photography prior to reading the book. Also the book doesn't go very deep in different portrait scenarios but gives sufficient information all the way. There are image examples for every situation.

Lots of tips and good examples. Very clearly written and the example photos are explained with camera settings clearly defined

Compact, well illustrated. Works through portrait photography in a series of clear and logical progressions .Probably not of interest to expert portrait photographers. Strangely, this book converted me to back button focus! (although I know that some experts like to use live view). That is just a measure of the range of issues presented clearly.

as usual from this series,well laid out,simple to follow but pushing you to improve ypurself. one problem i found was the swapping between full and cropped sensor cameras which i found confusing when checking out the focal length used.

Book is very simple and covers the basics the way they should be covered.On page 40-41 Erik compares 2 photos and says that they were "shot within 2 seconds of one another". The fact that models have switch places tells me that "2 seconds" is a lie. Erik still makes the point and by the end of the day it doesn't matter if it was 2 or 10 seconds. Ech, it just bothers me.

Really interesting ideas about & reflection.Have made good progress through this book & learnt a fair amount about portraiture.

This book was not only informative it was well written. It was incredibly clear and consice while being incredibly engaging. The book itself would benifit the complete beginer to the enthusiast who wants to do better.
