Fantastic Mash!
Living alone I don't buy 'fresh' potatoes as they end up sprouting and have to go in the bin. So I'd been trying out different instant mash substitutes. Tried all the others, the nearest to almost tasting like real mash was Idahoan Buttery but it still wasn't hitting the mark, then I saw Maggi instant mash. I was a bit put off by the size, but it had such good reviews I decided to go for it, so bought a couple of square air tight containers and ordered the Maggi. When it arrived the foil bag it's in isn't resealable so make sure you have something to decant it into to keep it fresh. It's got a very long use by date but to be honest if you keep it in an airtight container that can be extended for a year or so in my opinion. But if you're one of those that don't use something the day after the use by date has expired maybe stick to the date on the bag. It's dead easy to use if you want a single helping, I measure a level cup of Maggis into a basin and then add 250ml of boiling water, stir it well to make sure all the powder is wet and if necessary add a tiny smidgen more water but I find 250ml is enough, because I then add a shake of salt and pepper to season it, it's low salt so I find it needs more salt to suit my taste, and then finally I add a knob of butter (or margarine) mix that all in with a fork or spatula and then plop it on the plate next to your meat and veg.Honestly it tastes just like home made and I'm a bit of an expert on mash, everyone used to go crazy for my homemade mash years ago. This tastes just as good without the faff. If you're bone idle and can't be bothered, like me, this mash is a godsend. I'm eating more mash now than I did before cos it's just so good.I've got mine on a subscription every 6 months because I thought that's how long this lot will last me but I think I'm gonna have to shorten that to about 4 months now.Don't take any notice of the reviews that say its like sludge or slimey, or anything, because they've not read the instructions and taken time to read reviews to see how to make it properly. It's def not like sludge at all. In fact it's brilliant onto of savoury mince or lamb to make a cottage or shepherds pie. I dollop it onto of the meat and lightly brush or flick beaten egg on it so it goes nice and crispy. It's absolutely bootiful!

Nice but the price, why?
Good mash and we use it a lot, but the price has spiralled out of my price range so much i wont be able to afford this anymore, i was paying about £18 in 2020, so £30 more is unfathomable, and even if i could afford this i wouldn't as its way to much of an increase in % terms.

A brilliant product.
This Maggi mash is brilliant. I bought this during the corvid19 lockdown, chosen mainly on price. By coincidence, my wife bought some of the Idaho mash mixes at the same time. Having now used both I can cheerfully say that the Idaho wins by a very small margin, but the Maggi has a great taste and texture and is a lot cheaper. The recommended 100g to 500ml of water makes (for me) three servings, so the 4kg pack equates to 120 servings. Since my wife doesn't enjoy mashed potato, I think that this purchase might outlive me. Although, since it comes as a bulk packet, I've had to put it into smaller bags and I'm not sure about its shelf life. Nonetheless, it is thoroughly recommended. Imho it is infinitely better than Smash.

Instant mash, but best I ever tasted.
I buy this product regularly. It's tasty and easy to prepare. I make it according to the instructions and then microwave for 30 to 60 seconds to swell the starch grains. Gets to be really creamy. Love it.

Needed to get potatoes for mashed potatoes, at a time when potatoes were hard to get because of crop failure. So, got this and don't regret it !! An excellent 'larder filler' for when potatoes are hard to get, or simply for a quick meal for us ! An absolute must for us to have whenever it's handy for a 'quick fix' ! Taste is down to you...you get out of it - what you put into it ( egg yolks, butter, milk, etc. ). 'Does what it says on the tin !' IT'S 'MASH' !! Great next day delivery from Amazon Prime, thanks ! 5 Stars !

- I grew up in a time when packet mash tasted like, well
Just ordered our second bag! - I grew up in a time when packet mash tasted like, well, "packet mash" - this doesn't! The way we use it is to mix 1 cup of powder with two cups of COLD water plus a good dose of salt and then stir well for a minute or two until it starts to firm up. Using cold water means no lumps! I then stir in a very generous helping of melted butter and stir until it's mixed in. The mash can then be microwaved, baked in the oven for a crispy top, or used directly on shepherd's pie etc. (when baked/grilled if the top looks like rice pudding skin you've not added enough butter!). As a timesaver we used to use frozen mash but this is much cheaper, less bulky to store, and actually tastes nicer!
