Easy to install in a steel door. Sturdy and dogs love it
Update: the replaced power adapter seems to have fixed the door from lowering on my dogs. Also, regarding the weather proof aspect of the door, we have experienced one issue where the door would not open when/after it poured rain outside. I had to dry out the sensor and then it was fine. No issues since but something to be aware of with this product. Pros: So far, love the door. Our dogs already knew how to use a pet door, so training wasn’t tough. It is not super noisy and only scared our anxious dog for a little bit and she got used to it. The other one loves the door for some reason. One of our dogs has trouble holding her bladder all night and we just moved into a new home, so we wanted and option that would allow them to use a pet door while not compromising security in our home. So far, the dogs have had no issues. One thing I like is the door doesn’t seem to remain open if the dog remains next to it for a period of time. Door was very easy to install in our steel/glass door. My husband has some doubts about not using a professional but was not difficult when using a decent jigsaw and a metal rated blade. We have the larger size door for dogs up to 100 lbs, so the top part does occlude the glass a bit. Not that big of a deal, and not the vendor’s issue. The range adjuster on the door for inside and out is pretty nifty. Meh feedback: We ended up buying M5 collars separately because of the waterproof aspect. We kept the M4 as a backup because of the poor reviews folks had to say about the M4. Cons: We didn’t get screws or the power adapter with our order, so that wasn’t a plus. I do blame that on the shipping company though for manhandling they package. I am somewhat sure these two components fell out of the hole that was made in the cardboard during shipping. We have a power adapter that was rated for the same requirements, but the door says Low Battery. I had to purchase the company adapter from their page because you really can’t find one long enough outside of their company, and Amazon doesn’t seem to sell one with the same cord length. The door has ran into one of our two dogs using the door (not hard) two times, so I’m going to watch it and rerate after I receive the new adapter. If it still continues to run into the dog while she’s using the door, I will downgrade the rating and contact the seller. Hi Tech: if you ever read comments, one thing you really need to do is make the collar fobs fit normal collars. No one likes the crummy collars the fobs are sent with - they are junk. I had to use the zip tie approach to secure the fobs to the dogs waterproof existing collars. Also, I did know what I was getting into when buying the door with the cost total, but in all, we probably spent almost $800 for the door. Something to be mindful of if you want all of the bells and whistles. All in all, happy with the door. Time will tell - will revise if my review needs to change.

Easier than I expected, Works as expected!!
This product has been amazing so far. I expected the best at this price point and I was definitely not let down. Installation - With a hole saw and a jig saw you can get this done pretty quick. I think it took my neighbor and I about an hour and a half to install this and we did this with the door still in the frame. I took the outside piece (the smaller one) and centered it so the bottom of the opening was pretty close to my smallest dogs arm pit, put a level on it and traced it out. Used a hole saw for a starter hole for the jig saw (make a couple holes) and cut out the square. Once cut out I used a white waterproof silicone to add an extra barrier of sealant on the inside and outside pieces, this will also help with holding this in place as I have one of those really weird "Thermal" doors where its basically made of PVC and filled with foam so the screws only have about 1/4 inch of PVC to hold onto. Use - I have a Maltese (Dexter) and a Westie (Spencer), Dexter is a very skiddish dog and did not like to at first, the opening and closing of the door freaked him out and he would run away. There is a manual open button so I would press that and walk outside with a treat and no joke within 1 day they would use the door to go outside with me standing there and asking if they wanted to go outside. (I am still on day 2 of the door so I am not sure if they use it when I am not there but every time I ask if they want to go outside they use the doggy door and come back in) I will update in a week or so. Quality - You get what you pay for, its a great door. There are control knobs for each sensor so I have the inside sensor set a little lower so they have to be within 2-3 ft of it and the outside one bumped up like 2 notches so it opens once they get on the patio within 4-5 ft of it. Recommendations - I would highly recommend getting the battery for it, I am ordering one after I leave this review. It plugs in so if the power goes out your dogs cant go outside without you home. Security - The hole itself on the size I got is pretty small, a child would have a hard time getting through the hole let alone an adult or midget. The collars are "plug and play" so anyone with this type of dog collar could get it open but lets be honest, chances are slim someone would have the collar on them and even if they did the hole is super small they would probably use another point of entry... There are also buttons to enable or disable sensors so you can disable the sensors at night time if the dogs sleep with you if you are worried about security concerns. Overall - The product is great, I would just recommend having treats on hand and ONLY allowing your pets to use the new doggy door to go outside for a few days, once they get used to it the quality of life for your pet will go through the roof. Just like us they can decide to relieve themselves when they want to. EDIT : The collars come with enough "Strap" to fit on any size dog, once you install it, cut it to the desired length and then take a lighter to the frayed edge and squish it with your finger tips to keep it from fraying and pulling apart like a sweater...

This door changed our life
We purchased the medium dog door about 9 months ago, and we’ve used it long enough to say this thing has made a huge impact on the quality of life for my animals and has been extremely reliable. We own 6 small dogs under 20 lbs and a 40ish lb blue heeler (hes almost 18 years old). I also foster small dogs and at any given time have between 1-4 small dogs. During summer, sometimes for up to a week I may even have my daughters two small dogs during vacation season. Let’s just say this door gets a major workout!!!! My dog pack fly in and out this door all day - going potty, chasing friends, barking at a vehicle , chasing a noise….. so many adventures to have!! When I bought this I was hoping they’d be able to go potty on their own but it’s turned into a happiness door. It’s the single most best pet purchase I’ve ever made. I only wish I had bought the size up so my old man blue heeler could use it. At the time, I really didn’t think a 17 yo dog would have an interest in it, but he does and I wish I had the bigger door but don’t. I had my neighborhood “mr fixit” install it bc hubby’s to-do list was too long. Took the guy about 90 mins. He said it was super easy. Plugged it in and threw the collars on the dogs and it’s been reliable ever since. I have extra collars for the fosters and grand dogs. Takes a new dog about an hour to figure it out with 100% success rate (about 30 of my dogs and fosters have used this door from 8 weeks old to 15 years old and took to it immediately with no hesitation). PROS: - quick easy install and comes with one collar - collar sensors are extremely durable - plugs in but also has battery backup in case of storms - can turn off at turn or if you leave home to secure pets indoors -pets under 25 lbs can fit through size medium. Buy size large for later pet. CONS: - additional collars must be purchased for approx $50 each - collar senders only fit on this ugly black collar they send you unless you buy a black rubber boot for $10 which also will protect the sensor from bite marks, mud, etc. then will slide onto a medium or small pretty collar. - on very rare occasions (probably a lady with a dozen dog problems) it gets confused and stays closed even when a sender approaches; just turn off then back on to correct.

In short, this is an excellent pet door
In short, this is an excellent pet door. Go buy it. Pros: In contrast to “flap” style doors, which I have used before, there is no gap between the actual door and the frame. By design the door is completely sealed, which is great in colder weather. Wind does not keep the door from locking. Again, by design, on a windy day “flap” style doors may not lock, because the wind keeps the door open. This will not happen with this door. The ability to set different sensitivities for inside and outside is great. In my case there are stairs right outside the door and my dog is approaching the door from a different angle than on the inside. No problem with this door. I personally have no use (so far) for setting the door to deny entrance or in only. After all, I got it because I want my dog to be able to get in and out whenever he wants to. But having this option might be great for some people and it works flawlessly on this door. AC power. No more guess work when the battery has to be changed, not having charged ones at hand and the pet getting stuck outside because the power is too low to open the door. My 80lb Mastiff mix actually destroyed two “flap” style electronic doors, because the batteries where getting low and the door did not open. Cons: The key fop is very flimsy. It has not happened to me yet, but I can understand other reviewers complaining about how easy the key falls apart. I solved it by wrapping a rubber band around the key a few times. Electrical or Duct Tape might help too, but make sure you don’t cover the “speaker” Almost proprietary batteries. You will have to buy batteries for the key from the manufacturer. No going out to the store and get them quickly. My advice is to get some when you buy the door. Installing the door is a little tricky. Like the manual says, you might have to loosen the screws a little bit after installing when the door does not close all the way. It’s because of the pressure of the frame against the door. Price. Almost $400 is pricey. The door is very good, but that much? In summary, it took me about 45 minutes to install the door. That includes taking the door of the hinges, cutting the hole, “fine tuning” the hole to make the frame fit, putting the door back on the hinges and installing the pet door. That is actually pretty good considering I’m not in the handy man business. I’m very happy with the door so far. The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the high price and the low quality key. If you can afford it, it is definitely worth buying.

Worked fine for 16 months and then just stopped working.
I was very optimistic about this product after reading a few reviews from people who seemed to have no issues for years. Everything comes with wear and tear, and I reasoned that even if I have to replace the unit every 2-3 years, it’d be worth the $600 I put into it. I got the large unit for my 2 Yorkie Poos. I also got the wall tunnel and 2 pet collars. I was moving into a new-build and felt that this was money well spent. Even if it died on me after 3 years, I’d gladly pay that again for the convenience. Sadly, we only made it to month 16 when the door suddenly started going halfway down and back up continuously. There was no lead-up. One day it was fine, and the next day it would start its INCREDIBLY ANNOYING continuous up/down motion every time the dogs come near it. The only saving grace was that it still immediately went up when the dogs came close enough to walk through it, so they weren’t in any danger. It’s frustrating for everyone else because the door now effectively stays open until a human comes and pulls it down each time the dogs use it. This includes their 1 am and 5 am outings. I had become so dependent on this door that my immediate thought was to just replace it, even after just 16 months. I was hoping for a discount on a replacement and would have even given in and just paid full price if it wasn’t for their non-responsive customer service. They don’t seem to care what happens after you buy their product. I called to see what my options were and they didn’t pick up. I left a voicemail, which in my world means I am never going to hear from them again. If you don’t care enough to put people in a queue/set up a call-back, I don’t expect you to return a voicemail. I waited a few days and then sent a message via Amazon customer care. Their response was to call the customer service number. I messaged them back to say I already called. After that exchange, they called me back and I unfortunately missed the call because I was working. I called back and had to leave another message, so I guess I missed my one chance to talk to a human when I missed their call. I never heard from them after their 1 attempt to respond to the Amazon message. I then went online to see if others reported the same issue. I figured that maybe I was missing something and could find some tips on some online forums. That’s when I found the company’s troubleshooting guide. According to their troubleshooting “DIY” page, this happens often enough that it’s the first thing listed on the page. To follow their guidance, I have to order a replacement main wire harness ($30) and main circuit board ($80) from them, then unmount the unit from the wall, remove all the screws, and somehow replace those two items myself to get the unit operational again. I have never heard of a company encouraging you to take its product apart and try to replace its parts yourself. A $600 product. After 16 months…. Even with my reservations, I dutifully took the thing off the wall and took it apart to see what I was getting myself into. I figured that I could pretend to be an engineer to regain my sanity. I started looking for instructions on how to complete the replacements after the parts showed up. That’s when I found other posts saying that their doors didn’t work even after they replaced the parts. Not shocking because customers shouldn’t be asked to do this themselves anyway. Unless you are buying a build-it-yourself product, this makes no sense. Also, it looks like their limited lifetime warranty is not valid on replacement parts (i.e. Main Circuit Board, Motor, Dual Sensor Cable Assembly, etc.), so I stood the risk of being out even more money and still not having the door work. This is when I accepted defeat. So this was $600 down the drain. I took the unit off the wall and am replacing it with a plain non-powered flap. I am posting this so others are aware of what they are getting into with this purchase.

Changed my life
This item changed my life. While I love my kitties, it was becoming quite tedious having to get up & down every 5 minutes or so to let them in or out. My first thought was that I couldn't use one of these because the door in which I originally wanted to install it was glass, but it turns out one can take such a door to a glass cutter, who can cut a hole to accommodate the electronic door. Then I thought about it a bit more & decided to buy two of these. One leads out from my kitchen to my garage, and the other leads from the garage to outside. That way I avoided having to remove the glass door & part of its lattice work, hauling it to the glass cutter & so on. While someone experienced at basic carpentry could probably do the installation (detailed instructions are included), I elected to have a pro install them. He did a fantastic job & the doors have consistently performed magnificently. My male kitty, who is a bit bolder than my female, took to it right away & in no time was going in & out as he pleased. At first, the "whoosh" noise of the door opening & closing spooked my female kitty but her curiosity at what the male cat was doing soon overcame her apprehension & she too was letting herself in and out. My only problems have been with the collars, and a couple of issues with the doors. My cats kept clawing at the collars at first because they weren't used to wearing collars. The male cat managed to pop off the collar's battery cover but I found it, clicked it right back on & he hasn't dislodged it since. The other issue was that my female has somehow managed to slip completely out of her collar a couple of times while outside. Luckily, I found the collar the first time. The second time I had to order a new collar. I now keep a few spares collars (and spare batteries) around. It's a minor annoyance that their collar batteries are proprietary but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. And one time the inside door's inner sensor seemingly quit working & the cats couldn't get out (BTW, one can set the door to let them in only, out only, both, or neither). Anyhow I checked the company's website, which has troubleshooting information. Through that I determined I needed a new sensor. They sent it free (along with detailed installation instructions) because I was under warranty. But for some reason, before I got around to replacing it the original one started working again & hasn't malfunctioned since. And occasionally the door in the garage can freeze shut if temps outside get extremely low. We've started keeping the cats indoors in winter anyhow since one of them caught pneumonia & almost died. That door also started squeaking once but a whiff of WD-40 resolved that. While other pet door solutions are out there, to me this is about as perfect as it can get and I am EXTREMELY pleased with how well they work & the support from their manufacturer even though I bought them through Amazon. I love 'em!

Absolutely amazing pet door!
I’ve been using the High Tech Pet Door PX1 for 3 weeks now, and it’s truly incredible. It works flawlessly and has made life so much easier for both me and my cat. Installation was super easy—I was able to set it up without any professional help. The best part is that my cat can eat and go freely without me having to do a thing. The door opens automatically when it detects his collar, and it does so smoothly and safely. Plus, the battery life is impressive—I haven't had to recharge or replace it since day one. All in all, this is a fantastic investment. If you have pets and want to give them freedom while keeping your home secure, I highly recommend it. It's worth every penny!
