Reflects body warmth when camping on cold, damp or frozen ground (use with a campermat - not on its own!)
I ordered this mat as a lightweight addition to my usual campermat and noticed the difference on the very first night. I cycle-tour with a backpacking tent and camp on a range of surfaces including frozen and/or damp ground and although conventional 8-10mm closed cell foam campermats provide good insulation on a tent groundsheet, this adds noticeable extra warmth. It can be used either beneath the standard campermat or above which is how I use it. It can slip a little beneath a restless sleeper unless it's taped into place using a small piece of gaffer tape but it is definitely worth having. Within minutes of laying on it in the coldest weather, I am conscious of my body warmth being reflected back via the mat producing a cosy warmth and it guards against chills from sleeping on cold or damp ground. It is now a part of my cooler weather camping kit which I would highly recommend for anyone sleeping on cold, damp, wet or frozen ground. Note - it is thin so is not designed to provide soft padding. Nor is it a mat to use alone but works really well together with a closed-cell foam campermat or a self-inflating mat. It can be rolled up still attached to a closed-cell foam campermat and is worth every gram of its 100g weight and low price for the additional warmth it provides for cool-weather camping.

Oh yeah
Highlander Reflective Camping Mat. I like it.Decent barrier between me and the ground. I used it and found it worked pretty good. Used a tarp to form my tent, had this as my footprint. The ground was wet and it was around 4C. I sat half on the mat while I was getting my sleeping bag into my bivi bag. I could feet the difference between my legs, one on the mat, one off of the mat.If you expect it to give more comfort from lumpy ground, forget it. It's a thermal barrier not a padded mat.If you expect it to stop the ground leeching your warmth away as it would normally do, yep, it works.Packs away fairly compact, not too heavy. I'd have liked a bit thicker but then it would be heavier. I like it lightweight as everything I'm using, I carry on my back.I've tried numerous ways in the past, even used a mylar type blanket (which was brilliant until it tore) and this is one of the better ways.It did what I wanted it to do, it kept me warmer. I can't comment on durability yet

Seems fine after my first use.
As I've seen in other reviews it does seem a bit fragile but with care I think it'll be ok.I bought mine to mostly act as a protective layer under my air mat whilst offering some heat reflection.Great so far.I noticed the difference between sitting on the tent floor and sitting on this so it does offer some insulation and / or heat reflection.

Does the job.
I'll keep this one short as there's not a lot you can say about this roll mat apart from it does the job.The foil backing does help retain the heat but it is thin so do not expect a whole level of comfort. It folds up incredibly small and is ridiculously lightweight (perfect to take wild camping) so you could get away with using it as a topper on a thicker mat for added comfort. The only downside is that the black edging around the side of the mat comes away easily but that's easily stitched back on. (it lost a star because of this)For the price, it does the job and keeps the chill from the ground.

Good for under the matress for camping + correct size
I bought this as I needed a reflective sheet for camping that weekend. It arrived quickly. Initially it looked too small, but when you unroll it you quickly realise that it was folded in half. Overall it fit my cot PERFECTLY! The material is a bit weak, but I used it for the weekend between my cot and matress and it is still in perfect shape. Great for putting it where it needs to be and leaving it. I can see how constant use (sitting on, stepping on etc) could wear it out quickly. But for the price - it is perfect for what I need. It also came with a nice carry/roll strap. I'm very pleased!

A great bit of kit!
One thing that most people do not seem to grasp about sleeping mats is that they're primarily for insulation and not for cushioning. Generally speaking, the more the mat is cushioned, the bulkier and heavier it is. This mat weighs practically nothing - OK, 100g, which is insignificant, and it also folds up into a really small package. The great thing about the aluminised surface coating is that it reflects heat in the same way that it reflects light (elementary physics!), thus reflecting back the heat from your body while keeping out the cold. There is also a thin layer of foam between the aluminised sheets in the mat's construction and this contributes to its insulative qualities whilst also providing a modicum of cushioning. I've used this item both on the ground and within a hammock and I have no hesitation in saying that this is far superior to a normal closed cell mat. For added comfort and insulation I use a self-inflating mat in addition, thus enjoying the best of both worlds. This mat is inexpensive, light, waterproof, compact, comfortable, easy to clean and provides highly efficient insulation. You could, of course, use a car windscreen sun reflector - it's made of the same stuff, but this mat is longer and wider and you haven't got a cut-out half way down to allow for a rear-view mirror! Highly recommended.

lightweight camping mat
it's small, light and compact, but doesn't offer much comfort. but that's not the point. if you want comfort when sleeping outdoors then get and inflatable mattress. if you want to stay wammer, then this is good for preventing conduction of your body heat to the ground. a good addition to your outdoor sleep system. it's not so tough and won't last long but it's very cheap and can be used with an existing roll mat or inside a hammock etc.
