Yes, a hole will need to be drilled for a small bolt to pass through. A template is provided with the handle set and the lower bracket is adjustable to allow some leeway on placement of the hole.

Q: How do you flip the latch so the narrow end faces the inside without having to put the exterior handle on the inside of the door?

Do not know if that is possible
