It Detects CO
My entire house is electric, so unless I forget to turn my car off in the garage for some reason, there's really not much of a reason for me to have this. However, the brilliant builders of my house put a big ol'e junction box on the wall and installed a smoke detector right across from the bathroom, so it would go off every time I took a shower. Instead of patching in a useable junction box, I installed this. It looks nice, preserves a useable junction box, and will go off if my car spontaneously starts itself in the garage in the middle of the night. Win win!

Yours are probably too old, get these new ones
Just replaced all the old CO detectors in the house, all set for another 7 years now. This Kidde model was an upgrade from the originals in the house: better functionality of LED warning lights, different sound than the smoke detectors, and prettier too!On first install, these beeped one or two extra times after inserting the battery (charging the capacitor?); no issues after that. The hardest thing about the install was hauling a giant ladder around. My one star off is because the battery is on the underside of the unit---only accessible by popping it off the ceiling: although it's easy enough to do with a little twist, I always prefer a battery compartment I can get to from the front face.

Two Came with Corroded/Dead Batteries
I ordered 2 of these alarms and they were easy to install. I like that they are modern looking and low profile. However, upon installation, both alarms were beeping to indicate that they needed new batteries. When I opened the battery door, they both had old, heavily corroded batteries. Also, they were manufactured in 2009 so they were technically "expired" before they were even delivered.

Replacement for the one installed 11yrs ago
The hardest thing was researching that this product was a replacement for the one installed 11 years ago. Amazed at the shipping. We live in the middle of nowhere and it came about 14 hours after ordering...on a Saturday.

Great design
I did a tremendous amount of research on smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. I had a hard time finding the detectors with excellent reviews. It seemed they all had bizarre anomalies. I finally tested Kiddie for one rep lemon in my house. The batteries, install, and manufacturing all were pleasing to me. It worked perfectly for 6 months. At that point I replaced all of my detectors with this model and interconnected. Everything went smoothly and took only an hour to finish entire house conversion from 10 year old detectors. They have been working without any anomalies like chirps, freedom to use any battery brand, and test perfectly each scheduled check.

Installed no problem
We are in the process of painting and when up close and personal with our existing carbon monoxide detectors...they looked terrible. These wired up no issue and communicated fine between three of them. Look much better and are exactly what was needed

note about life span
I just bought this to replace an expired unit. The stated service life is 7 yrs. Some one complained that the unit they got was already two years old. But in the instructions of the one I received it states that this is from FIRST POWER UP - and that it is now good for 10 yrs. So this is not a problem. As always it arrived fast and was in new condition. in case you are worried I got it Jan. 30, 2014 and date of manufacture was Sept. 2013 which I think is fine. So they are not selling old units. The price is right and it was same model and the connector fit no problem with my old unit.

Carbon Monoxide Alarm
My home has two of these carbon monoxide detectors hard wired and after unsuccessfully trying fresh batteries, realized after seven years it was time to replace this unit.Trying to locate this model number in the local lumber yards proved futile so after checking Amazon and finding exactly what I needed, I ordered one and I received it the next day.Unfortunately, I did not realize these detectors really have a shelf life of seven years because within one week of replacing the first alarm, the second one began to chirp. At least I didn't have to try the lumber yards again. Went back to Amazon, ordered another one and got it the next day at a price that was $5.00 less than the first one!As an aside, a few days later, my neighbor's carbon monoxide alarm began to chirp. His home was built at the same time as mine (seven years), he knew I had just changed mine so I recommended he order two which he did. He changed the first and again within a week, the second began to chirp.Bottom line, if you have more than one unit and they're close to seven years old, change them both.
