This highly ornate ladies ring is a truly handmade Sterling silver heirloom quality piece, #34 of my online selection catalog. A prized and ancient design of Thailand named "The Flower of the Angels" was designed for royalty in the kingdom many hundreds of years ago. Modeled after a flowering vine that grows in the canopy of the rain forest here that was reserved for special occasions when the lovely flower was picked and presented to the Queen. The one to pick it had to be a skilled tree climber so it was rare to see one of these flowers when fresh. It now is even more rare to see this artful design as a great many modern smiths are no longer taught this historical style due to the high level of skill required. As a foreigner to Thailand I am honored to have been taught to create this style of ring which has been exclusive to Thais for hundreds of years. The solitary gemstone is securely mounted in a multiple sawed prong, intricately created and highly decorated basket with hand engraved flowers on flanking plates over a split, comfort fit band. A design worthy of show. The feature gem is a Star Ruby, an 11.5 x 8.5 x 4.3 mm oval cabochon that weighs 4.50 carat with no heat and no leaded glass filling. This is naturally mined gem from Africa and is a reddish pink color. This star is natural rather than diffused, complete with six long rays, medium high in brightness, well centered and medium high in sharpness. This gem is opaque, heavily included, fissured, and has color zoning. The polish is smooth and the most overwhelming feature of the gem is the floating star. The weight of this well built, handcrafted ring is about 8.7 grams. This hand crafted ring is a size 10 in the USA.
