A lovely feel good story
I absolutely loved this story of Harriet who, after her business fails in London, returns to the village of Cranfield, the only place she has ever considered home. Reading about Harriet and her friends Libby and Flora and Harriet's battles with the handsome stranger Joe to save her beloved lavender fields was a real delight and I couldn't put this book down. This is the first book I have read by Alison Sherlock, but it definitely won't be the last. It was a joy to read from start to finish.

Start of another series
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Alison’s previous series and this one looks to be shaping up into another lovely, comfortable read

I feel like I’ve read this story before
Very familiar to another book although that was about saving a wildflower meadow. Same uptight property guy with the same demanding father…. Oh well.Read all of Alison’s books and usually a good read. This one didn’t engage me at all. Very superficial and the ‘romance’ had no spark. Sorry not for me.I LOVED ‘Over the rainbow’ - great banter, laugh out loud moments. Can’t believe this is the same writer.

fun uplifting story!!
Liked the story, could empathize with most of the characters and lose myself in a story of struggle and things turning out well!

A light read
It was ok, a fairly light hearted story, nothing too dramatic. Maybe I missed it in the synopsis, but the writing in this story often comes across as having being written for ages 10-12.

CHARM AND WARMTH IN AN ENGLISH VILLAGE
Harriet has been forced to return to the small village of Cranfield. Her beauty business in London went belly up because rents were so high. Her beloved Aunt and Uncle have both died and now she must close out their cottage and sell it. She needs the money. But, the loss of the cottage is nearly too much. She returns to find her two best friends, Flora and Libby are still the wonderful people she has known since she was young. And the neighbors who were friends of her Aunt and Uncle are all there to let her know she is loved. Everyone is glad she has come “home”.Harriet also meets Joe. He is a serious man with a plan. His plan will change the life of everyone in the village. Her Uncle had two fields filled with lavender. He had been tending them for many years. Harriet wants to honor his memory and would like to figure out the best way to do that. This story is about the people who live in the village as much as it is about Harriet. Every character is a person who lives an authentic life and has issues which must be faced. One of the largest issues for everyone is the fact that the village is in a downward spiral. The railroad station was closed, the farmers are having issues with weather and now a company wants to come in and take over the lavender fields. They plan to put a large warehouse where the fields now stand. The warehouse would basically take the life right out of the village. The villagers are involved in Harriet’s life as well as the lives of one another. There is humor here but there is also drama.Ms Sherlock is a talented author. She writes about people who are warm and real. Her characters are people who make the reader want to know them well.I enjoyed the book, but it took awhile for me to get into the story. It had a slow start for me, but when it picked up it was charming.
