Good quality plastic. Easy to handle.

The red mulch I’ve used before was much thinner. This was easy to work with, doesn’t tear easily. In the past I’ve replaced it every year. We’ll see how it’s doing by fall - might get two years out of it.

This is much different than the perforated bright red tomato mulch sold elsewhere. I got this as my local store was out of the red stuff. This is much thicker, very hot pink (not red), and not perforated. While easy to work with, and the film is substantial, it is necessary to put in perforations around the plant for water to get through. It is heftier and doesn't blow around when preparing your garden row. I just planted the garden, so will update on performance.

The thickness and overall size are fine for my application. But it is “hot pink,” not red. I use it as mulch around tomato plants, where red mulch reportedly improves productivity. Seemed to work last year, and I used “buy it again” to purchase this time. But the material I received last year was truly red. I don’t know if the color difference will affect production, but hot pink is at least not as attractive as red.

Not sure about the sun thing and improving growth but it’s been raining here and all the tomatoes I have this under are lush, green and healthy. The ones without are now yellow at the bottom where the water has splashed back up on them. I will put this under all the rest now, it’s worth the effort just for that reason alone

Turned white before I even planted tomatoes. I’ve used other red plastic mulch and kept the same plastic on the ground for a few years. I’m pulling this and throwing it out before I even planted. Don’t waste your money.

I received two different colors. The Pinker color does not allow weeds to grow through but the brighter red color is somewhat transparent and so much grass grew underneath it that it ballooned it out above my plants. Because my plants were already established I could barely spray the grass. I had to use about 300 Landscaping Staples with pads between each of my plants and any place that was ballooned up. Hopefully that will solve the problem and kill the grass and not give it enough room to breathe. I really wish they made something thick in this color like 10 mil.

This red film is thick and plastic, so I had to cut holes where my plants will go and to allow some moisture through…definitely a great weed blocker though…easy to fixate with landscape staples, which are not included…one pack actually has the equivalent of two long sheets that could each easily cover a50 ft. row.

I’m hoping the ripening advantages are similar because planting schedule did not allow time to return this and search for a replacement. This is definitely not red, it’s extremely pink. Very heavy ply, too, more than required.
