Bestop Tailgate Bar - Jeep '97-06 Wrangler TJ; Not Compatible with Trektop Classic

I bought this to replace the OEM bar that had seen better days. I didn't realize at the time that the Bestop bar is shorter than the OEM...original equipment is square, and the Bestop is a rectangle (shorter in height than OEM). It doesn't matter at all if only using the soft top, but I swap out to a hard top in the winter months. The OEM hard top has a bracket that fits into the OEM tailgate bar brackets to help hold the glass in place, but since the Bestop bracket is shorter, it won't fit. Not a major issue...I kept the OEM brackets, so I can swap them out along with the hardtop when the time arrives. The bar itself is great, and the brackets that come with it fit perfectly; works great with my soft top and I have zero complaints about the product itself. Just be aware that if you use a hard top, you'll want to keep the original brackets!

I purchase u used jeeps that was missing the tailgate bar and I purchase this and am very satisfied with the purchase seals work great. It's been rains and there have been no leaks. Very easy to install

It works as intended; but it is not the same dimensions as the original. The square tubing is smaller in this part. I bought it because my original was slightly bent and the rubber pieces were looking a little rough. The rear of the top would occasionally slip out - the tabs would in-tuck, not the bead coming out of the channel. This fixed the problem; but my concern is replacing it in the future if the company ever goes under or stops selling these

I lost my old bar and my (used) replacement OEM soft-top didn't come with it. I needed a replacement to help keep the elements from getting in behind the tailgate and this was the perfect solution! I removed the OEM bar brackets, and installed the replacements that came with this kit. I used the new screws that are also included and it was a perfect fit with the OEM bracket screw holes. Yes, you do need to replace the brackets. The new bar installed perfectly to the OEM soft-top rear vinyl window and the fit/seal could not be better. The whole installation took maybe 10 minutes, and I am left wanting for nothing! Thank You Bestop for this product!

Awesome fit. I lost the fiberglass rod that fits in the sleeve that this bracket slides over, but a 43"x1/4 in wooden dowel did the trick. Good, solid tight fit. You'll need to replace your own brackets with those provided, but it's 2 Phillips head screws per side. Took me all of 2 minutes to throw this thing on, and I'm so happy.

-quick install (7 minutes without the guide) -felt clean and sturdy As you can tell it’s wet outside, especially in Washington state. Really needed one of these to keep the rain out from the back haha, new to Jeep ownership but I’m learning. At least now my butt isn’t wet, wish my doors would get here quicker 🥶

It’s exactly what it says it is, great quality, easy to install, works perfectly. Took a bit of slamming the tailgate for it to close properly as the rubber seal was very thick (as it should be) so that may just be my Jeep, but no problems now. Just a heads up if yours is like mine

I've had Besttop soft tops for years now & always kept the same tailgate channel.. it's probably been 10yrs & it finally kicked the bucket. Damned good quality!

My ‘05 LJ came missing the tailgate bar for the soft top and this worked perfectly.
