Light but not particularly durable
An essential and necessary part but sacrifices durability for weight. I take my Shimano 12S cassette off regularly for cleaning and service. The fine aluminium thread wears if it becomes loose and is easily damaged by cross threading or over tightened. I would love a stainless steel item - not fussed about the weight which I would trade for extra longevity in a heartbeat.
