Exactly what I want in a contemporary GCN controller.
Very solid controller with contemporary improvements to the Gamecube layout. I primarily use this controller for playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, and Gamecube games via Dolphin emulator (PC).IMPORTANT for BLUETOOTH:To connect to PC via Bluetooth, on your PC (tested on Windows 10) navigate to Settings --> Bluetooth & Other Devices.Select 'Add Bluetooth or other device".Hold Home to put the controller in search mode as an Xbox controller. [OR] press Home + X to put it in search mode as a Nintendo Pro Controller to take advantage of gyro and other Switch configurations.- Works on Nintendo Switch and Steam out of the box.- Wired and wireless communication. (Wireless requires separate Bluetooth dongle for PC.)- Includes all additional buttons (L3, R3, L, and -).- C-Stick has a cap/wider lip for better camera control.- D-Pad is slightly bigger and more responsive and comfortable to press with less resistance.- Center buttons have a slightly different layout than pictured (at the time of purchase).[-] (+) (o) (H) (T)- Documentation needs MUCH improvement. I had to figure out a lot of functionality myself.- Connectivity lights are placed below the center buttons and are hidden when looking straight at the controller. A huge plus for me since I don't like being distracted by them while playing in the dark.- Shoulder buttons ZR/ZL are digital and are easier to press but do not support analog variation necessary for some games (Super Mario Sunshine). Shielding is faster/easier in Smash Bros.- Material is matte and doesn't become as slick with sweat nearly as easily.- Rumble works well. Can press Turbo + [+] and [-] to adjust rumble strength.- Battery life is long, lasted me the whole week of regular play and charges fast.- Allegedly includes gyro/motion controls. Have not yet tested this feature out as it's not a common feature outside Splatoon 2 and DOOM (2016).Cons/Concerns:- First controller I received, the ZR button didn't always register. I was able to return and replace it quickly and easily. Took 2 days to get to me. Second controller had no issues.- Controller is recognized as an XBOX 360 controller on Steam which means it cannot utilize gyro. I don't know a work around for this yet. This seems to be a problem exclusively with a wired connection though I'm unable to test with Bluetooth at the moment.- Kind of annoying, the shoulder buttons are labeled like an XBOX controller. The R, L, ZR, and ZL buttons are labeled as RB, LB, R, and L respectively. Function is the same, but could be confusing on Switch.- There's a tiny hole just above the Exlene logo on the back. At first I thought it was a manufacturing error, but both controllers I received had them and some promo pictures do as well. I'm unsure what this is for. Perhaps a factory reset button?- The inclusion of Turbo makes this controller not eligible for tournament play and has very minimal use. I'd prefer if it were left off.- I do not know how long this controller will last. I hope to use it regularly for a few years. I bought the extended warranty. I will report back if this becomes an issue.Overall, very good controller and am very happy with it.

A flawed but complete modern GCN style controller
After spending 2 weeks with this controller, I'm downgrading it to 1 star. The "analog" triggers require huge amounts of force to actuate. If playing a metroidvania title and right trigger is sprint, I can expect pain and cramping in my hand after less than an hour. If the controllers unusable then the controller is unusable. Simple as that.PROS:Can switch between X-input and D-input on the fly.The sticks out of the box are very snappy and very precise. I can reduce the deadzone of each stick as low as Steam will let me and still have no drifting.Has all the extra buttons that a conventional GCN controller would need in the modern world.CONS:The package was a pain a get open, thanks to a cleverly placed dab of glue I destroyed the box getting the controller out.It feels kind of cheap. It's solid, but it's light weight and the feel of buttons doesn't instill a lot of confidence. There's a lot of play in them especially in the shoulder buttons.Trigger buttons are not analog, and the right one requires a lot more force to actuate than the left. The manual says you can swap the A/B & X/Y buttons to quickly adapt the controller to games made for a 360 style controller, but this does not work in my testing. This was important and it's not working. The deadzone can't be configured in the controller itself.I don't know if I simply got a bad one, but if it worked exactly as advertised and all the functionality in the manual was there this would easily be a 5 star controller. But it's not, and what it's missing removes the ability to plug & play on PC games which it gets 3 stars.

Not the best, but give it some time
First thing you gotta know before buying this controller is that it's not a true gamecube style controller. This is a switch pro controller shaped like a gamecube controller. All that really changes from what I've seen is added buttons compared to the GC controller (good, yay), and the triggers aren't analog triggers (less good, maybe?). Some games might work better with that, I'd go research it a little. I knew that when I bought the controller so that's not my point of contention, just a warning. I personally am not a huge fan, just because the triggers don't press in as much, but that's more of an opinion. When I first got the controller, it was a little stiff. Some of the buttons gave some resistance to being pressed in, and the joysticks didn't really want to move very quickly. This mostly is going away by just wearing it in.As part of that, the sticks seemed to have another problem. When I first got it, the sticks seemed like they didn't want to go far enough to output the maximum value. I don't know if I just wore it in like the buttons, but there's also a chance it was just in my head.I actually was going to give a much worse review, because it's been less than 2 days and one of the triggers didn't want to be pressed properly. As I was typing, I checked a gamepad tester again and it was working just fine. I think what happened is I just accidently turned on turbo mode for that button. Whoopsie. Don't be stupid like me. I think the buttons on the box are laid out differently than on the actual controller but they all work fine.I had a few hiccups with connecting the controller, but it wasn't too bad. I've only used it with my pc, so far, so I can't speak for other platforms. I'm mainly using wired mode right now, but I have gotten it to connect via bluetooth. Haven't gotten my game to recognize the controller using bluetooth, but it's also a very developmental game, and I haven't spent too much time trying. To summarize, out of the box you might not be impressed. However, most of my issues seemed to go away after a day or 2. All in all it's a good controller. Not perfect, but it hasn't given me any real issues. If the controller just spontaneously breaks or something in the near future, I'll probably update my review. Anything too distant would just be because of extended use.

A nice wireless GameCube controller for Switch (Not for PC/Steam)
I really do like this controller. It pairs and works well with the Switch console. It's probably the closest you will find to a GC pad that isn't wired, with just the right improvements to make it stand out from the competition. You have the feel of the original GC controller, but it's wireless and comes with rumble (some of the more popular controllers don't even have it, even the wired ones, which is quite surprising.) I actually like the smaller original sized D-pad on this controller as it helps it further feel like the original GC controller (this isn't a controller you use the D-pad heavily on anyways.) I even like the original feeling Z button with the extra included on the other side, which also helps sell it as an original GC controller. The only thing that's different, which I feel is a benefit here and an actual improvement on the original controller, is the fact that the C stick has more of a joystick feel instead of the weird nub of the original controller. Honestly this controller feels like what the GC controller should've been from the start (outside of the missing analogue triggers).I am knocking one star off though for the experience on PC. I know a standard Switch Pro controller (which this shows up as on a PC) doesn't work with X-input, so Windows won't pick it up from get-go, but there are alternatives around that, either through the Steam controller configurator or an 8bitdo dongle (which translates Pro controllers inputs to X-input). The reason I'm knocking a star off is, while I can connect to the 8bitdo dongle as well as a standard Bluetooth connection, neither seem to be able to function appropriately with the controller. The 8bitdo simply doesn't recognize the controller at all (though it works fine with a standard Nintendo Switch Pro controller). Steam will recognize the controller and inputs, but the controller has issues with it's vibration control and will just randomly vibrate at different intervals. These vibration issues happen regardless of if connected via Bluetooth or hardwired to the PC through USB.I figure I will hold onto this controller specifically for playing Switch games, as connected there everything works fine for me.

Very nice
I am someone who has never owned a GameCube and started playing Smash when it was out on the Wii U. I only first played with a GC controller like a week ago but after finding out how awesome they feel I had to buy one and this one definitely delivers. All of the buttons and joysticks feel so great, as well as the triggers. The build and material feel sturdy and the weight is very good. The D-Pad is a little small but not enough to make a difference for me. The only complaints I have are that the bumpers are a little too clicky for my taste, and the rumble. It's really nice that you can change the strength of the rumble but it's pretty rough and low definition. It doesn't really effect Smash but it's more important for some other games, like Animal Crossing. I would give five stars and would be using this for every single game if it wasn't for the rumble. I understand that this is meant for people who are used to an original GC controller that also doesn't have HD rumble, but I'm using it just because it's more comfortable and the buttons are more intuitive than a pro controller and it'd be nice to have a modern rumble.
