As we follow the authors career, we also get an insight of the relationship between government, the armed forces and their major contractors - not always the smooth one team process we might wish.The author also gives a very honest account of his own perceived frailties and weakness - all of which he overcame to become the head of his beloved submarine service. We learn a lot about inspirational leadership and determination to succeed from his accounts.Thoroughly well written, this is great story telling which will give the reader a taste for, and a deep understanding of modern submarines in times of tension.
