Very high quality for the price
Tons of tone variation and as heavy as you need, there’s a crisp texture and quality that you just don’t find with similarly priced pedals. Very impressed!

Well built, good tones
Nice pedal from TC. Not as insane as the TC Eyemaster [gives an Entombed Wolverine Blues type tone], but with three very usable tone variants [Raw, Fat & Scooped]. The scooped tone sounds a bit dated these days, but the Raw and Fat make up for that. Plenty of tonal range, good response from standard, down-tuned and baritone guitars. Really low tunings need the gain backed off a smidge or they get muddy. Also drives a pre-amp well too, when the gains backed right off. The soft switch foot switch works fine, and the thing is nice and solid. All in all a very good value unit.Annoyingly mine was a resealed return. Not bagged, no TC information sheet or warranty slip, and was covered in greasy fingerprints. Can't blame TC for this so the review stands, but Amazon shouldn't have sold this as new. It wasn't.

It’s great, buy it 😁
Not a bad word to say about this - for the money it’s ridiculous - great solid metal build quality (none of that plastic casing you get on some cheap pedals), smooth quiet foot switch, decent variety of crunchy effects that can be obtained (within reason - this is primarily a hard rock / metal distortion so none too subtle but if you’re looking at this you’re probably looking for high gain distortion), volume can be set pretty low through the pedal without losing too much presence, it’s easily a match for bigger name units three times the price. Lots of fun.

What a great pedal!
I love this pedal - for the money it does a really great job and you can get excellent tones out of it. I prefer the 'fat' setting - superb for metal, especially when complimented with an overdrive. I've got a dialed-down Boss SD-1 just before it, and it really fills out the tone. I run all of my pedals through the clean channel on a Laney Ironheart, and this pedal has now earned a place on my board. I have other 'higher end' distortion pedals (some are just over-rated due to their name IMO), but this is actually my current little favourite, I just find it really easy to dial in the tones I like. Others may disagree of course, because tone is so subjective, but if you are looking for a well made budget distortion pedal that does what it's supposed to then you can't really go wrong with this one. Good pinch harmonics and thrashy chugs can be obtained all day long here!! Happy shredding :-)

Beyond Expectations
The media could not be loaded. As soon as this was delivered I immediately plugged my guitar into it and connected it into the return of my Laney Leadtop effects loop and it sounds insanely good for the money especially in the "scooped" setting.Doing this allows the pedal to act as your preamp so you control your tone purely with the pedal.I haven't currently tried plugging it in to the front of the amp like a normal distortion pedal as I don't have a long enough cable but I don't see the point in doing so for me anyway.Sounds great and I would still think so if it cost double the price I paid.Worth noting that the video attached to this review is recorded with a phone camera hence why the sound is quite fizzy.

Raw? Fat? Scoop? What??
Raw = Tube Screamer style mid boost. Turn the gain down and the volume up. Surprisingly versatile.Fat = Flat EQ, uncoloured distortion.Scoop = The modern metal scoop sound. All the gain! Slayer!! \m/Excellent build quality. Seriously this pedal will outlast you, and possibly your kids kids too. Its a tank. You need a screwdriver to install a battery (9v square type) but that's not a big deal.

Not for me, but worth trying
Bought this after reading all the positive reviews. Sadly it wasn't for me! Was using it with a Marshall DSL5C and the combination of the bright Marshall sound and power output of the dark matter just produced an ear splitting harsh overdrive. On it's own or combined with the dirty channel I just couldn't get a pleasant tone from it. The voicing switch was pretty ineffective too. That said, the pedal is very responsive, it is true bypass and the range from clean to distorted is huge. It just didn't suite my set up. Fantastic delivery and return.

Swedish Buzz Saw and Much More
So my 68 Princeton reverb special (12 inch greenback) has 0 gain. My basic board has a green Russian but I don’t always feel like using it. So here came the eyemaster. This thing is absolutely killer. Paired with the Schecter Riggs frs Ultra pictured here it slays. I had a blast with sustainiac and Floyd rose with this.Gain maxed will give you the buzz saw.Gain around half with volume down a bit will give you really sugary gooey fuzz. I was using that setting with a EJ strat, a 335 with historic p90s, west creek revenge with invaders (absolute treat), Cobain Mexican Jag, Dunable Asteroid DE, and played for hours it was so much fun.My advice: Get 1. Be a shred demon.

My dude, Oh my creamy goodness!
Ok indulge me for a moment.I'm an advanced guitarist, nothing better than the average shredder. We all are looking for a pedal that gives epic tone AND control of the intensity as we scale thru. I had my doubts, I've wasted lots of money on crappy gear that promises the moon. These guys didn't promise anything... They delivered. My rig. (I no longer gig)Fender blues jr VIBerhenger compressor/sustain 25%FangJoyo American (yeah, it's worth it)Caline delay-echoTunerEasy, right? Simple but deliberate.I'm an Yngwie Malmsteen, Igor Paspalj, Randy Rhodes shredder. It's all about volume control for intensity without losing tone.Buy it but don't just drop it in and expect it to slay...EQ it in your rig, set it up to your ear and how you like it to feel. That's how you truly see it in action. On the flip side..Highschool garage band guys who just like to power chord Metallica all day will still love this raw vintage setting. Puppets is saw-weet!Buy it

Excellent distortion
I got mine mainly because it was in the price range I could afford and it's great. Better than most of the more expensive brands on the market. Great for pros and amateurs.

Hunted it down
I’ve been waiting for a used or hocked one of these, since the shops stopped selling. I don’t like giving Amazon all the business and cutting out the age of guitar shops, but it was here and it was affordable, so boom! Paid. Played dance macabre on the raw setting, dialed it in, and smiled. I ain’t saying buy it, I’m saying but it now, because these are getting harder to find
