I like these pottery pencils. I have not used other brands and this is my first time using pottery pencils so I cannot compare it with other brands. I expected them to be softer, but they work for me.

Very hard "lead" does not leave enough color on your piece.
I have borrowed other brands before and these are not soft enough to be useful

They sort of work
I used these for some writing on the side of a cup for my daughter. First, the lead would not hold after sharpening, it continually broke off. Then the color did not write like I expected, it was choppy and did not cover the written area, causing me to have to do several coat, which does not look right when trying to capture my handwriting. Finally, the color melted and smeared under the glaze in the kiln.
