Pay Close Attention To The Instructions!!!
EDIT: I HAVE HAD TO RETURN THIS FOR SAFETY REASONS. Steam repeatedly sets off the touch screen. Annoying when it stops the flow halfway through, terrifying when it starts the flow up again randomly because it takes 30sec for the screen to auto lock and there's no manual override. MY ORIGINAL REVIEW: The things I love about this machine: Functionality is pretty intuitive Capacity is great Heating capability is decent Things in not so keen on: Speed of dispensing It's a bit noisy when dispensing The indication beeps are annoying It's very demanding I know that last one seems odd, but when the descale indicator comes on you really need to pay attention to it. In hard water areas this could need doing more often. I'm in a very hard water area, I have an inline filter on my tap but even in combination with the filter in the machine, I'm still having to do it every 3 weeks or so. It takes 120g of citric acid every time. I've noticed that as soon as the descale indicator comes on, the machine starts to get a little strange in functionality. It can stop dispensing fully, and it beeps a lot more. Pay close attention to the part of the instructions that says to keep it ventilated. Otherwise steam can condense on the outside of the display. At worst it can activate the machine without human intervention at best it causes a lot of beeping if the screen has managed to lock like it's meant to. Even with clear space around mine, I've still needed to add a bandana made from a thin muslin cloth. Otherwise it yells at me constantly after use and has reactivated a couple of times. The screen only stays active for 60 seconds after being unlocked, but that can be enough. I change the cloth when I do the descale. So, on the whole I really like it. It's the best dispenser I've owned or used, and the filtration is great. But it seems to need a natty little fashion item to make it less annoying (or potentially dangerous).

Works well
Not 100°, but hot enough for tea, so I'm happy. Controls are easy, easy to fill, holds large quantity of water, much safer than pouring a kettle, looks OK, footprint not much more than standard kettle, quiet operation (although beeps when completed).

no good
the machine after 10 months has problem. No hot water comes out. Tried all the suggested methods, but no use. Poor Difficult to reach Philip customer service. A very poor after sales service。The machine is out of order after 10 months use, and the machines is now under repairing by Philips. However Philips took away for more than 1month but still not yet been fixed and returned to me. Poor. Don’t buy this.

Almost perfect hot water dispenser
I'm giving this hot water dispenser 4 stars as it's got one or two minor flaws which prevent it from being perfect, but it's very close. Good points first; It's well made the plastics are high quality, the metal finish is very clean and appropriate for where it's used which helps keep it clean. The water storage is almost two litres which is a full days use without having to keep topping up. The top access is large which makes pouring in the water very easy and mess free The filter housing is removable so you don't have to use it but the filtered water does make a better tasting brew Temperature is hot, not sure if it actually is 100 degrees when it hits your cup but much better than my previous dispenser. It's also quite quiet and quick when dispensing, I'm sure it's also much more energy efficient than a full kettle and less prone to scale compared to even filtered water in a partially filled kettle which can increase the scale risk. The quantity settings are useful sizes and seem pretty consistently accurate with 250ml being great for my coffee and 300ml being spot on for my tea. There is also a continuous pour setting which can be used both hot and cold so great for larger use case like filling a drinks bottle or pan. Touch screen is responsive and so far no issues with misinputs etc Now the down sides; My old dispenser was a fraction quicker at making a brew as it would 'charge' a cup of water after dispensing which it would then boil in one shot and shoot out. However, as mentioned this is a trickle dispenser which reduces splashing and seems to help maintain a more consistent temperature The large water container is removable but there is no valve on the bottom so if you pick it up it will just pour out the bottom which seems counterintuitive considering there's a handle shape on the back which suggests its designed to pickup and carry to the tap. This is further exacerbated by the face that the dispenser automatically stops at 500ml reserves, presumably to prevent you 'cooking' the heater element on a dry boil but equally that's well above a typical cups worth and as described above means you can't lift out the water tank The design is clearly aimed at European customers as the drip tray is very slender, perfect for a 'latte' cup but for UK mugs it's' not the best. It's no issue but it does mean you need to place the cup well up against the back splash. That drip tray is also laughably small capacity, the actual container is only about half of the metal plate you can see. The other problem with the drip tray is how it attaches, there's two hooks on the back splash it sits on but they don't have a locking clip and seem spaced slightly off so the back of the drip tray does pop-up slightly off them occasionally. again not a deal breaker but something to be aware of. So far I've used it daily for about a week and have got used to the little quirks including using a glass jug to refill the tank when it approaches the 500ml limit, thankfully it filters quickly enough to keep the dispenser going if you do get close to that limit. Overall, I am happy with the purchase, it's does everything you expect and it does it in an attractive design with the brand name of Philips behind it. I bought it used-like new and because of that discount I feel it's good value as a decent upgrade over other known brands however it may have been a slightly different opinion at full price. Being used like-new it could also account for if something is missing from that tank bottom like a stop valve. The four star is reflective of thinking about the quirks at full price.

Love it. The kettle has not returned.
Absolutely love this. Easy 1 cup teas on demand: push button and come back in 2 minutes to add milk. We refill with a jug so rarely remove the water canister. The descale function does not seem to always run to its end, but then it is just a matter of run a full tank with descaler and then another full tank without, so not complicated to do even without digital hand holding. Uses about the same counter space as a kettle but more versatile , more energy efficient, and less noisy. Is the water 100 degrees when set to 100? I don’t know but I do know that it makes just as good, maybe better cup of tea as the kettle did. No build up of limescale means that every cup is clean and without bits. Plenty fast enough for us. Any wait is less than the wait for a kettle to boil. Lower temps for nighttime mint tea means can drink them right away, so that’s less waiting right there. My previous kettle is still in the cupboard just in case, but haven’t had it out once since this little machine arrived.

Delighted with my Upgrade
I have serious dexterity problems so have been using a Breville Hot Water Dispenser for years, until it gave up the ghost. I find filling with a small plastic jug much easier and less faffing about, so use the same filling method for this new machine. Obviously I have no idea as to its longevity so my comments on its current usage. Some complain about keeping water level - I don't find this a problem. After initial set up and some usage, I simply add 500mls to 1 litre to keep above the required minimum but rarely fill to max. since I take a guess as to how many cups/mugs etc. I shall be using that day; one can always add more. Just lift the back lid, fill using a small jug not exceeding the required level, and away you go. The Lock Button is used to turn on the actual machine, assuming you've already plugged into the main socket. Choose whatever and then one needs to press the Lock Button and then the Start Button. If you are an adult you may think this is time wasting but it only takes a second and the idea is that it is meant to be a safety feature especially with inquisitive fearless children investigating every nook and cranny. Personally I would not let any young child under the age of say eight use this. Not because it is dangerous but because children forget dangers. You need to keep your hands away whilst hot water is being dispensed as obviously there is some steam. I have a bean to cup coffee machine. If my drink from that turns out too strong I now use this machine to add extra water at 70degrees. The smallest amount dispensed is 150ml but press the Stop/Start button almost immediately to stop the flow if you want less water; it takes a couple of seconds to stop dispensing so you need to be alert as to when to press the button. I say press buttons but in fact they are touch screen type buttons. - Sometimes I use instant coffee when in a hurry - for this I use 70 deg (for powdered milk) adding instant coffee plus I use dried skimmed milk powder. I find this makes a good cup and drinkable almost from the word go. I dithered over the expense. Now that I have it and have used it for a week or two, I would not be without it, even with the cost of the filters. - My view is that if one is on medication pumping all manner of stuff into one's body and watching what foodstuffs one eats in order to eliminate a lot of toxins, why would we not wish to eradicate pollutants from our water. The filters catch plastic particles, which some others do not. If plastic is bad for marine life in the ocean, then it's bad for me. - Hope my musings are of some help to others. UPDATE I couldn't live without this now; I have a very expensive kettle that now never gets used. Using a plastic jug for lightness, I fill it every morning. Sometimes need to top up during the day since I now use it for everything that needs water. I choose 40 degrees for water that needs adding to my bread machine; 70d for anything instant/powdered milk; herbal and green tea 80 or 90. I use 100d boiling for making jellies. When I see those Quooker adverts that dispense water from boiling to cold I get the shivers - they seem dangerous to me - anyone slightly forgetful ... and who knows what could happen plus they are so expensive. This Phillips model does everything that does apart from cold/ice cold. It does ambient (around 19-20). There is a more expensive one that does Ice cold as well if you are willing to splash out but this suits me fine, and is safe when used as per instructions. I shall never go back to a kettle. Obviously if there are more than two of you, the disadvantage is that you would bed constantly topping up the water. Our water is very hard and the taste is not brilliant so the added expense of filters is well worth it.

Does most of what it should do except for some questionable marketing.
Brought this to replace an Aqua Optima that had failed. Since my previous water heater was on the large size I was looking for something that wasn't too much smaller than it. Firstly the good bits, the controls are quite neat and easy to use, it has the same preset temps and cup sizes my old heater had. It produces the water at a good temp and is not too loud compared to some machines that I have used before. The filters are Brita compatible so you should be able to find some cheap deals on non-phillips filters. Now for the bad parts, sometimes the quantity of water dispensed can be a bit off. This seems to be more noticable when dispensing larger amouts of water. The drip tray is quite small compared to some other models and I have trouble getting some normal mugs to stay on it. It lacks any height adjustment as well but this is not a real deal breaker since it is a smaller machine. The biggest annoyance and one I think is a very questionable thing is the low water cut off. The machine will stop dispensing at a set level which leaves 300ml in the water tank that you cannot dispense. I'm pretty sure I brought a 2.2L machine but that is questionable marketing since I can never use that much water even when it is in the water tank. So, this is actually a machine with 1.9L of usable water tank. It is worth noting that the minimum water level marked on the tank is at the 500ml mark so it isn't even set to the minimum level apparently. This makes the machine rather overpriced for the usable capacity and I would not have brought it if I had known that the full capacity was not usable. Every other water dispenser I have owned have always had low water cutoffs far closer to empty than this does.

You can take the water filter out
We bought this after the other make broke after 6 months. I bought the original because I drink single cups of tea throughout the day and I’m sick of boiling the kettle. I had a smart kettle before that you could turn on from your phone and knew when you were coming home so it would be ready. I had that for nearly 10 years. So going back to stamping arms waiting for the kettle to boil was incomprehensible. The app kettle company went bust so the app stopped working so it was in effect just a £150 kettle that over boiled and didn’t turn off. The first water station heater thing was great but I always forgot to turn it off so flooded my counter regularly but then it completely stopped working. Amazon kindly took it back I then tried some others and all of them were rubbish We then settled on this one. Yes out was expensive. But honestly it’s perfect. Multiple cup sizes for thermos cups, tea cups, mugs. Or just continuous flow We took out the massive water filter. The concept is ridiculous. It takes up half the tank and you have to fill that and then wait for it to drip through the filter which takes ages. And they’re also super expensive We have a filter water dispenser on our fridge so we just took the water filter out. It nearly doubled the capacity. It’s VERY quick and so far the water is coming out steaming and it makes a great cup of tea Highly recommended
