Works well in my couple of trips on the dunes. Digging deep in the sand and dirt is not easy given the size, but surely worked. Takes a couple minute compared to a regular shovel and a bit of elbow grease, but hey, you purchased for its compactness. Lock is pretty study. Overall good quality.

don't recommend it for desert use.
It folds down small and is convenient, but the screw spins freely and won’t tighten. If you’re using it in the desert or sandy areas, a shovel with a straight edge is better.

Disgusting quality
Bought as a second shovel in the jeep. My friend had the main shovel, and I was digging up the car with this one. After 5 minutes of digging, the shovel started to bend, break and after 15 minutes there was nothing even remotely capable of digging. Bottom line: if I had only had this shovel with me, I wouldn't have been able to dig out. Don't take it "in case of emergency" - it will let you down at the most inopportune moment

Great little tool. It is a little bit annoying to convert it to its two different tools. I wish it was a click into place rather than unscrew then screw, especially if you have to change over quickly. But this is a sturdy product!

Great price for a sturdy shovel that folds neatly into its own pouch. Not used yet but for emergency use when travelling in the alps , could come in useful .
