In reading many of the binder reviews, what they say is the binder spines were cracked at the seam. If the manufacturers would add spacers to the 4" D ring binders to keep the outer edges as wide the spine, it is highly likely this would not happen. Lacking a spacer, the front and back panels are coming together because the binders are empty. Factor in non-bendable metal D rings and what do you think is going to give way? The seam. If someone is trying to save packing costs by shipping these the same way they ship non-D ring binders, they are going to waste a lot of money in the process.

Kind of flimsy compared to my nicer ones from Staples, but it still works fine. You get what you pay for.

Somebody needs to come-up with something better!
