A little pricey but very nicely crafted.
This came shipped in a nice little cloth bag and the corners and edges were very well protected with foam on them. It arrived in great shape. It is obvious that this isn't made out of solid hard wood but is instead some sort of pressed wood with wood veneers on top. That's ok though - it still looks great, feels substantial, and the craftsmanship is top notch. There are no notches or grooves or areas that do not line up properly. The top is perfectly smooth and the corners join together tightly. The craftsmanship really is top notch. Having the numbers and letters on the board is a bonus that some boards don't have but is extra helpful if you're trying to really master chess and learn.I'm sure there are higher end boards out there for more money made out of solid hardwood, but this makes for a very fine mid range chess board that looks and feels great. Would make a very nice decoration in the home as well with some nice chess pieces on it too.

Nice heaavy weight board with attractive veneer.
Review of Woodronic 16" Chess Board, Cassia Siamea and Maple Wooden Tournament Chessboard with 1.6" Squares, Ideal Gifts for Professional Chess PlayersMine came well wrapped with protective covering over the corners. The board is nice looking, heavy, well balanced and not warped. I’ve read that it is fiberboard with some veneer, probably a good choice as it is less susceptible to warping than solid wood. I liked that I could choose the square size, mine fit in the 1.6" size, but it is good to have a choice. The chess pieces I have planned for it are a set that I made on a 3D printer and am in the process of painting. I wanted a nice sturdy board to inspire me to finish the set. My only concern is that the board looks so nice it might make my chess set look bad. We’ll see. I’ve already thought about making some changes in how I paint them to suit the board, like changing the bases of the black side to dark brown to go better with the board. The board came with a cloth bag, very cool.I like this item.

Very Nice Board, Painted not Inlaid
Great board, very sturdy and well made. Exactly as pictured in the photo, squares and index are painted on, not inlaid, but very well done. This board will last many years. Tiny rubber feet on the bottom. Love it! Thank you :)

Nice, large veneer covered board. Very level, good weight, worked well for us.
We had gotten a white plaster set of chess pieces for my son to paint, and the board they came with was a folded up piece of plastic coated paper. So, we were looking for something we could actually use the pieces on, and this board is just the right size. Ours came very well packaged. It was in the included board storage bag, with foam protectors on each corner, inside a product box, and then inside the the shipping box. It was in perfect shape when we unpacked it, and I didn't see any flaws on it. I liked the weight, it was level, and worked great with our plaster pieces. It does appear to be a veneer on a pressboard. In some ways that isn't bad (less warping, good sliding), but if you were looking for a solid wood board, this isn't it. However, for what it is, it's well made. It looks good and we are happy with it.

A beautiful, well-crafted chess board
As the heading says, this board is beautiful to look at and very well crafted. It comes in a nice protective bag, so if you transport the board it won't get scratched. The board itself is very well made. Each square is precisely cut, so they fit tightly together with no gaps or filler applied. The finish is satin and feels smooth with no glops or uneven areas. I love the texture of the wood used, especially the dark wood which really pops. It's a matter of personal preference, but I don't care for the notation letters and numerals around all four sides. I'd expect letters and numerals on an inexpensive beginner's board, but this is a high-quality board to keep for a lifetime. As such, I'd prefer if it didn't have the numerals and letters. If this doesn't bother you, the board is a definite winner. The board is a little on the expensive side, but in my opinion the quality justifies the price (unless you're bothered by the notation letters and numerals.)
