Use windows 10 or windows 7 for this job. You can also use Ubuntu 18.04 as well. And run a media server on any of these. Windows server is for an office envoirment work place

Good reliable OS for a server, OEM license die with the machine they are activated on

Purchased to go with a self build server system, server 2012 R2 does give you the option of a server side GUI and not just a powershell interface like some documentation suggests.It is a very good OS, very stable and reliable, my AD replication seems to be faster and more responsive too.Highly recommended to upgrade. please remember this license dies with the machine it goes on, if you build a server this can be applied but can not be transferred to another machine when it is sold or breaks.

Works for a while then suddenly... no go!

Installed and activated fine, but after a year, re-installation resulted in "Your product keys is no longer valid" type message.
