Physics (Oxford World's Classics) Paperback – 8 May 2008

Aristotle unlike Plato, kept his feet on the ground. Plato an aristocratic mystic no doubt schooled his pupil well but obviously he had his own ideas even if most are not taken seriously nowadays, but he reigned a long time. This version has a brilliant and scholarly introduction and study guide by David Bostock which is worth the price of admission in itself. Aristotle doesn't read easy, but so what. We have brains, that we only need to kick in.

I remember studying physics at school and my teacher recommended this book thanks to Mr Collins.

Book came rather later than i had hoped so i had to complete the module i needed the book for before the book arrived. So haven't actually looked at it yet.

I needed this book for University it arrived on time and in very good condition. The book itself is quite difficult to get your head around but very interesting, this book was never meant to be published as it was lecture notes for Aristotle's students that he write himself so it makes it all the more interesting to see how professors taught their students many years ago. Still not finished the book as I have another two to read for lectures but I imagine it will not disappoint.

good reading material and aristotle's role in the ancient world

I do not recommend the Oxford World's Classics edition of this book. The introduction and notes are mostly unhelpful and negative. I compare it, by contrast, with the Penguin Classics edition of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, which has helpful notes and also an index and a glossary of Greek words. Aristotle's Physics itself is, of course, a work of five-star importance to any reader with an interest in philosophy and the history of science. The discussion on Continuity (Book VI) is particularly hard going, but most of the other books offer analyses and insights which relate to a modern understanding of physics and cosmology.
