UPDATE: 18 months on and nothing negative to report. Trap remains leak free, smell-free and looking like new.So glad I shopped around and went for quality rather than a cheap alternative. The waste was easily installed by my plumber and has not leaked at all. The flow rate is good. The product feels robust and should last a long time. Being brass, the grill is solid and durable (unlike cheaper plastic alternatives). I love the fact that not only can the grill be lifted out to remove any debris (using the little hook provided), but the entire trap can simply be removed for a more thorough clean.

Bought this for a shower installation. It is a high flow version which means it has a very large volume to reduce the impedance to water flowing from the shower floor making any risk of overflow significantly reduced. I had previously had installed a much smaller unit which didn't drain the water fast enough, this is no problem with this unit. Moreover the unit feels sturdy and off high quality, was delivered by amazon time and in originally packaging so five stars for them too. The product comes with two seals the thicker one for shower depths less than 6 mm and the thinner for shower depths more than 6 mm. It comes with all necessary fittings attached.

Easy to fit and clean, waste flush with the shower.

This is a really well made product, with high quality materials.I would be again if necessary.

McAlpine - you get what you pay for. Don't buy cheap rubbish. Buy the best. Buy McAlpine.Well engineered. Easy to install. Looks great. Superb flow rate. Excellent easy cleaning function.But after 18 months of use (circa 2 showers per day) the chrome on the grill and to a lesser extent the bezel, has started to wear off (see photo).Our mains water is very soft and we've not used "aggressive" cleaners. What's more, our last shower trap was virtually perfect after almost 20 years. I called McAlpine, they said we should only use soap and water to clean it. I said we use Mr Muscle shower spray on the glass enclosure and wall tiles. And same brand mould spray. They said you shouldn't. I wonder what Mr Muscle would say?Soap and water doesn't wash off soap scum and is useless on those little spots of black/pink mould that start to appear on the grouting.But give McAlpine their due, they sent me a new grill and bezel FOC. Obviously I can only fit the grill, because fitting the bezel would entail dismantling the whole ensemble and adjacent floor.I'm still a McAlpine fan, but consider either their chrome plating isn't as thick as it used to be, or I had a one from a bad batch.

Bought this to replace the cheaper plastic one that came as standard with the shower tray. One of the best decisions we’ve made during our house refurb. The flow rate is brilliant & long hair can simply be cleared from across the grill. On the odd occasion the grill has been lifted (with the special tool provided), there is very little mess or debris underneath. Has been in use many months and couldn’t be happier. Plumber who installed it also very impressed.

I ordered this shower trap because of its high flow rate, despite the relatively high price. When it arrived it looked well made.However despite fitting it several times with different angles to the waste pipe, a flexible waste and finally liberal applications of silicone sealant, I couldn't get it to seal properly and water dripped from the seal under the shower tray after showering. In the end I threw it away and bought a £9.99 shower trap from a local plumbers merchant which sealed first time and doesn't leak.
