Seattle's Bell Witch is a Doom Metal duo comprised of bassist/vocalist Dylan Desmond (also a member of Samothrace) and drummer/vocalist Adrian Guerra. With only the bare minimum at their disposal, the pair crafts some of the darkest, heaviest and most dismal time-stretching Doom in recent memory, and their sole release up to this point, a 2011 self-titled demo, has already garnered significant recognition from the underground scene. With a more sinister and enveloping sound, Bell Witch's debut full-length Longing is a marathon-like exercise in extreme doom. Testing the thresholds of listeners who become engrossed in it's overwhelming sonic experience, it's a powerful statement from one of the most promising acts the American scene has to offer. Longing features guest vocals from Aerial Ruin's Erik Moggridge on the track 'Rows (of Endless Waves).'

LONGING
Longing is an excellent album. Bails and Rows are particularly well done and never feel monotonous despite their extended lengths and minimalist band structure. The album teeters off a little towards the end; but, this does not detract from the album's overall quality. I love this album; however, I do find it's follow up, Four Phantoms, to be the better of the two.

Good Stuff
Really liked this. Bass only but it actually didn't sound exactly as I was expecting, which is a good thing.

Soul-crushing Metal.....
This is purgatory. At least that's where this album takes me when I give it a spin. When Bell Witch enters my ears, I become the passenger, the record is my ticket, my stereo is the train conductor, and my mind is the 5 tons of steel to get me there. Riffs heavier then a skyscraper filled with concrete; wailing vocals haunting enough to make a banshee turn beet red; the hammering drums signaling the funeral march to the underworld. To most, this statement is mere hyperbole. Then again, people who haven't been on an airplane plummeting towards the gaping jaws of Hell won't know what it's like until they've experienced it for themselves. For those who fall in that category, Bell Witch will make sure you know exactly what it feels like.Buy the ticket, enjoy the ride.
