What about the added sugars? Cane sugar listed as the first ingredient, dextrose as the second...??? Is this healthy?

Thanks for asking! There is a lot of controversy about sugar in our diet. While, we don’t disagree that excess sugar or excess anything for that matter is bad for us, we do believe that the role that sugar plays in health and performance is about context. In the context of an active lifestyle and more specifically during prolonged or very intense exercise, sugar can be critical to helping to maintain one’s blood sugar, to keeping oneself fueled, and along with sodium can significantly improve the transport of water into the body. The bottom line is that consuming an excess of sugar isn’t good for you if you’re not active. But, if you’re working hard and sweating, a bit of sugar will improve your performance significantly. So if you're not sweating and working hard, don't use our Sport Hydration Drink Mix. But if you are sweating you need to put back both the water and the electrolytes you’re losing and can best do that with a drink that contains a little bit of sugar and plenty of sodium. Which is all to say, we encourage working athletes not to fear sugar during an effort, and also that the type of sugar is important too - we use REAL cane sugar. Sugar (or glucose) is ultimately the fuel that our body uses, and more specifically, the only source of fuel for our brain, nervous system, and red blood cells. There is of course a balance to all this, but if you're up off the couch and out on the trails it won't hurt to have a bit of carbs to keep you hydrated and fueled. The old 1 lb. (454g) bag had 19 servings (24 g/serving), this has been reduced to 15.5 oz (440g) but servings increased to 20 (22 g/serving). Why?

Thanks for the question! Because Skratch Labs is a food product and not a supplement product, it has to abide by strict FDA regulations and to conform to their standards, they base the serving size off a 12-16 oz serving. With the new Sport Hydration drink mix you'll get 20 servings if measured out correctly using the scoop provided. The "old" Exercise hydration drink mix was based off a serving of 500 ml which is slightly more which is why you would get ~19 servings per bag for that given serving size. It's still the same great product from Skratch, but because of new regulations they had to alter the nutrition panels to meet FDA standards. What is the concentration of electrolytes after mixing with water?

The electrolyte profile is a reflection of the median or low side of average that we see for the population - about 750-800 mg of sodium per liter. This is about twice as high as what you’d find in typical sports drinks, but potentially still on the lower side of normal for the population. Because sweat is mostly sodium and because sodium is the most important electrolyte to replace to help drive thirst and to maintain proper physiological performance, we have an electrolyte ratio that is high on sodium and much lower with respect to potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Despite the fact that potassium, calcium, and magnesium are lost in relatively small amounts compared to sodium, our drink contains a little more of those electrolytes than is typically lost in sweat.

Is this similar to Liquid I.V, so drinking one glass would be sinilar to 2-3 glasses of plain water?

Not too sweet, easy on stomach, good flavor

I use Skratch Labs Hydration Powder on long road rides and usually go through about one bottle per hour. The Strawberry Lemonade flavor is really nice and not too sweet, which makes a big difference when you’re drinking it for several hours. It also doesn’t leave that heavy, sugary aftertaste that a lot of sports drinks do. It mixes easily, goes down smoothly, and I haven’t had any stomach issues using it on longer rides. The electrolyte balance feels right for endurance efforts, especially compared to standard drinks like Gatorade that can feel a bit too sweet over time. The price is a little higher than Gatorade, but the cleaner taste and better overall feel make it worth it in my opinion. All these people who bought this product are leaving reviews that show that they lead very exciting lives. Cycling and canoeing... Well I am disabled and I have POTS and I have diarrhea (cha cha cha). I cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners including the natural ones like stevia and monk fruit. So I chatted with chat GBT ad nauseam to find something that used just enough sugar to help the process of the electrolytes working properly and nothing artificial. I purchased the strawberry lemonade the first time and there's not much flavor there. But ultimately I am not looking for a delicious beverage. I am looking for something that works. This works and it causes me no harm. I would like to see lower prices in the future because it is a very expensive product and not something that I can reasonably afford even though it's something I absolutely need. Chat GBT has suggested that I make it myself. And that's annoying. There should be a product that is affordable and doesn't involve me turning my kitchen into a chemistry lab. Ultimately a good buy if you are looking for something that works and does not contain artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners. Woot.

Perfect For Tradesman & Cyclists

I swear by the Scratch Labs Products. Every flavor i get tastes great, is packaged well, and works better than I could ask for. As an over weight guy in his 30s who has been taking huge strides to get back into shape I can honestly say that the hydration powder, the energy chews, and the recovery power all work phenomenally. My advise is to consume as needed, read the labeling and properly educate yourself on what your body needs. For me this has been a game changer during 10 plus mile rides and my career as a plumber.

Skratch Pineapple solid choice

Love the product. This is not my favorite flavor, but it solid tasting pineapple. It mixes well and does a great job of hydrating and providing some energy. Customer Service was fantastic when we had questions. Product and Customer Service is 5 stars - Pineapple flavor is what makes it 4 stars (still a solid choice).

Really seems to hydrate, great tasting.

Easy to drink, good tasting & dissolves in our glass tumblers quickly. Husband has been feeling very dehydrated especially in this hot weather and feels much better, no headaches. The night sweats are getting less every night. The first night actually had NO sweating! Seems to really be working...this brand was recommended to us. We both have two 16oz glasses a day. Update on review, Dec 10, 2025- bought several times now I bought the larger amount to have on hand. Although I've tried several other brands this is the best tasting & dissolves quickly + caffein free. A bit spendy, but worth it!

My new favorite!

I’m not a fan of Hydration Powdered Drinks as a rule. (I’ve tried most of them!) Especially Lemon (that reminds me to of my annual colonoscopy prep.)! But the Pineapple flavored Skratch is delicious! My new functional medicine doc. recommended it! It’s so good! (Not too sweet!)
