Cyprus - South & North: Rother Walking Guide - 50 walks

I've been using this book for almost a year now and I'd say the main reason for recommending it is that there isn't an obviously better alternative for hiking in Cyprus. It has a nice selection of walks, and is well produced: compact size, pictures, maps etc. The drawback is that its instructions aren't always accurate. Despite being meticulously detailed much of the time, sometimes they are a bit vague/lacking/misleadingly expressed, or they rely on landmarks like signboards that have now disappeared. Therefore some intuition and/or backtracking, lengthy detours is usually involved. Length of walks is expressed in hours and minutes, rather than distance. Clearly the author walks faster than I do...

Amazon please remove this book. It’s offensive.

A new useful guide for a range of walks across Greek & Turkish Cyprus.Some of the translation from German does not help e.g. on the walk from Pissouri the guidance is to take the path 'behind' the derelict cafe, If you do you end up on the wrong trail. The correct word should be 'beyond'. If you make allowances for this and some vagueness in describing routes, then its okay. Its good to have a new guide and for the ease of walking to be broken down into - easy, moderate & hard routes.

I found out about this book through the Ramblers Association magazine "Walk". I am a keen hillwalker and intend to visit Cyprus later this year, so this book is useful. It lists a lot of walks in all parts of Cyprus, including for those who don't do much walking. My main gripe is that as this book was originally a German publication there are errors in the translation - references to "English" instead of "British", some words not translated at all ("und" instead of "and"). The publisher should have done a bit more proof reading.

Bought this for a holiday in the last week of November 2013 where we were based in Paphos. Used it for 5 walks (including Baths of Aphrodite, Avakas Gorge, Troodos Mountains) and found the book excellent. Though the maps are not particularly detailed they were sufficient and were helpful when occasionally we were uncertain of the way finding. Useful indicators to the difficulty and length of the walks too, though we took a lot longer than the times stated; probably due to stopping very often to enjoy the scenery, fauna & flora, photography and picnicking.Had a fantastic walking holiday which was greatly assisted by this guide.

Used for 3 walks in N. Cyprus in Oct 2017. Instructions for getting to the start were good and the walking instructions also pretty accurate and appropriate. Timings worked for us too.

I did six of the walks (one of them twice) during my holiday in February 2018. They were all delightful walks and I didn't get lost once, because the routes were thoughtfully, but thoroughly, written, without excess verbosity. The size is handy and the maps are simple but adequate. The estimated timings of the walks take no account of looking at views, taking photos or reading the route, so you need to take account of this when planning your walk.

We did lots of these walks and would recommend the book- there were lots of options and we didn't get lost! Walks based all over Cyprus.
