A must read for every IT professional!
I have had the pleasure of working under Mike’s leadership, which he has taught me so much in my early IT career. This book is a must read for any IT professional as it will provide tips throughout on some pretty interesting situations, most of I can absolutely relate to.The world of IT is a world wind of change, which is why I believe most of us have chosen this path. As Mike goes through history you will find the technology has changed but the problems and experiences have not. As mentioned IT folks shoot for the ideal outcome…..and then there is reality. Seriously made me laugh on several occasions, in others I wish I would have thought about that. I related so well to these situations. This book is a fun quick read and many will benefit from it. The recap of strategies at the end is perfect, and will be referenced over and over. Thanks Mike for putting this together and for being one of my most prominent mentors.

Handy reference book, keep it on your desk.
Mike has provided us with a handy reference book that should stay on your desk. This collection of real world experiences reminds all IT professionals of the importance of several key strategies that we need to remember and employ. The demands on IT change daily and this book is a "manual" on how to succeed in this changing environment.A great read, an enjoyable look back at how IT was in the early days, boy do I remember punch cards. While IT and the challenges we service delivery professionals face have changed, the underlying strategies of problem resolution have not.

Eh…
I am halfway through the book….eh…. I mean this just reads like lists of someone’s accomplishments… not written in a way to really learn even HOW they accomplished and WHAT they really learned from everything. If you just want to read about someone’s life in IT but not learn much about IT or how to go about your career in IT then maybe this book is for you. If you want the latter then this book is NOT for you. (also not for me)

Enjoyable read and valuable advice for any technology professional
I have work in technology for over 35 years and I could relate to many of the stories that Mike shares in his book. It brought back many fond memories hearing terms like “bus and tag”, MVS, CICS, PS2, Token-ring, COBOL, DEC, etc. Technology has changed dramatically over the last 40 years however the Important Tips shared throughout Mike’s book remain solid advice for anyone that wants to differentiate themselves and drive real business value throughout their career.
