I was very skeptical but I took the risk anyway since I do not intend to mount heavy stuff on this thing. Everything feels very solid except for maybe the boom pole, it feels hollow and too lightweight.

The LOMTAP C Stand is built like the proverbial tank. Very heavy-duty components including large, easy-to-tighten locking knobs. Both vertical poles include springs to protect your lights in case of an accidental drop. For very little money you get not only the stand, but also a water-weight bag, 3 clamps, and a well-made case which holds everything. The case does have a shoulder strap, but given the weight of all the components taken together, I wouldn't want to carry this C Stand on a long hike. The design is very well-thought with lots of versatility. Each of the two runners include mounting holes of various diameters to accommodate most anything you'd want to mount and the legs can be expanded and folded without tools or fiddling with locking knobs. I do wish the boom arm were of a larger diameter or stiffer material. With the boom completely extended and a heavy camera/light mounted on the end, there is a slight bowing and bounce. Not a problem really, especially if the boom is not extended to its limits, but it is the only thing about this C Stand that isn't totally rock solid. My only wish is that LOMTAP had the option to either choose between the longer boom arm sold with the 10.5' model, or sell that longer boom as an option for the 8.5' model.

It brings peace of mind when using expensive lighting gear — and that alone is worth the investment.
