Lightweight, Easy to use, Dog loves it!
This is a great invention. Our Collie X loves to roam, just like any other hound, and often pulls on the lead. The 3m length is enough to give him a sense of freedom but still connected for us to remain in control. While the click in the unit also works well as a training tool when giving instruction, as it provides a quality sound reinforcement. It is lightweight and can be handheld or strapped to your wrist / belt, the fact that it is so light benefits the dog too. Don't be fooled that this is a flimsy product it is not; the cord and lead are made from strong nylon and unlike other retractable leads there is very little opportunity to get yourself tangled up in it. The fact that this has an integrated shorter hand held section within the lead enables the handler to hold the dog close by in crowded or specific situation means that you have flexibility of use. This lead would be great for anyone who has problems with their hands as it doesn't have to be handheld and is easy to strap on and release and can be locked to a specific length. It also gives you hands free if you have to carry anything but keep your dog close by.TIP: Before we took him out on it the first time we did try it out in the garden so we got to grips with how it worked which took about 10 minutes. We have had this now for several weeks and it is our lead of preference from all those we have in the arsenal of dog paraphernalia we own.

I love it! Great for joggers but also for those who need to use walking aids.
I love it! It took me and my 21kg Staffie Cross two or three walks to get used to it but that was all and since then we've had no problems. The length of the lead is about two feet shorter than my old extendible lead but the dog has soon got used to that and I had to be very disciplined initially about not grabbing the cable to pull her back as there are several warnings on the info leaflet about the dangers of doing this. However, as I said it has only taken a few walks to get used to this and I have noticed that my dog does behave much better now during walks. If I lift my arm to halt the lead she immediately turns round and begins to walk back towards me which is a real improvement on how she behaved on the extendible lead. I should make it clear that I don't use this lead whilst jogging/cycling. I have to use two walking sticks and so a handsfree lead is essential and this one means my dog can still have a wander and a bit of freedom but I can quickly control her and bring her back to heel if I need to. I'm very happy with the quality and the functioning of this lead and believe it is well worth the extra expense. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to be handsfree.

Insecure finger cutting lead
Bad buy. Waste of money. Too large for my wrist so not secure. Even if I try further up my arm it is still a bit large and if the dog pulls hard there s not enough Velcro to keep secure so it falls off. There is no locking mechanism so if you do not hold the short part of the lead you have no control over how much lead your dog has.The extending lead like a lot of extending leads is the really narrow finger cutting type. Given that there is no locking mechanism you'll regret it. Some extending leads have a slim lead, this one would be better if it was like that as you may have to try and pull your dog back.

Poor return spring lets this down.
I had high hopes for this but it is now lying with the other things I bought unseen on the internet which turned out to be less than useful. The brake mechanism is good but the return spring is hopelessly under strength for the task - even the lead cord being wet is sufficient to make it sag and retract too slowly. The lead cord is also too short (shorter than they say) and extending it with anything simply results in it not retracting properly. Maybe ok for a very small dog but not anything over 3kg.

Great idea!
The box comes with the lead reel and the wrist strap separately. It's nicely packaged so would be great as a gift for doggy owners. To assemble it, you just need to thread the strap through the underside of the reel which is easy to start but takes a bit to get all the way through as its necessarily quite tight. I got a flat head screwdriver and gently pushed it through until there was enough strap to pull it the rest of the way. Took about a minute once I had the screwdriver. The whole thing feels very sturdy and good quality and has been fine even with very strong pullers testing it. The strap is well padded and comfortable and fastens securely with Velcro. They're adjustable and will fit any size wrist. It is very useful to have your hands free which s what it's all about. I was concerned about not having a stop button but jerking your arm back does the job nicely and after a bit of practice to get the feel for how sharply to move the arm, it works every time. The only issues I've had are when the dog is near me and my arm is right by my side, on occasion there's not enough 'backwards' to invoke the lock. However, there is a short hand strap between the clip and the cord. The other thing is that the lock releases when the cord slacks so you can't do the equivalent of walking on a short lead with the lock button held down. I used to do this with my old extending lead when we were walking by the road and they needed to stay close to me. With these, I have to use the hand loop instead. For anyone with two dogs, like me, but font like restricting them with a V lead, these work very well. I got two of these, one blue and one pink and started by having one on each wrist.. As you imagine, that didn't work. The cords twist around each other and the stop the leads rewinding when slack and tie you in knots! After experimenting, I attach one dog to my left wrist and make a small loop on the second lead and hold that it my left hand. When the dogs cross paths, it's easy to unloop the handheld one. These are certainly the best solution I've found for walking two dogs and giving them both the freedom of a long lead.I'd very much recommend this lead. It would get five stars if the hand strap part was a bit longer or there was some way to keep the lock on.
