Great pen for writers
My favorite pen. Even after letting it sit for days (capped) it perks "write" up and the ink flows just fine. I love this pen and this nib. A great price point for those who love fountain pens. Also, the fine point is actually a fine point.

High performance at a low price!
I noticed that an artist I follow used one of these to great effect and was amazed when I found them here and that this pen is one of the lowest priced fountain pens I’ve seen! This pen is very simple in its design and very lightweight. You’d almost think it’s a disposable, but it’s actually refillable and a really great pen.The model I’m reviewing is the extra fine “02” pen. The nib is perfect for drawing, I prefer a slightly thicker line for writing, but this pen is so nice to use that if I only had one pen for an everyday carry, this would be (and is) it. Despite this being super inexpensive, the manufacturing quality is excellent. The line quality is also excellent and this nib is fine enough to write on more absorptive paper prone to bleed-through. The ink cartridge is simple to replace and this fountain pen is as quick and easy to use as any modern Gel, felt-tip, Ball or Ballpoint pen one would use in the course of daily life. Throw it in a drawer for a few months, pull it out and it will immediately begin to write without any coaxing. The cap has a spring loaded air-tight seal and the nib will not dry out; apparently, even after a year. This is a pen anyone would enjoy using and if it turned out that it just wasn’t a good fit for you, this $7 pen would be a super cool gift to give to a friend or coworker. Two things to be aware of:1) The pen is essentially a lightweight plastic tube. If you had it in a back pocket and sat on it, or are prone to dropping pens on hard flooring, this pen or its cap could break.2) The barrel of the pen, cap and grip area are all completely round. This will be a plus for many people, but I personally tend to “roll” the pen over time and have to re-adjust my grip with a perfectly round pen. A very, very minor issue that likely won’t bother most people.

A great fountain pen, for a small cost!
I love these inexpensive pens! A true extra fine nib, and it begins to write immediately after I fill it. The stainless steel nib is found in more expensive pens as well. The extra inner cap keeps the ink fresh in the pen.

Weak construction but good pen
I love how this ef nib writes but a little disappointed the barrel cracked within a week of receiving. Still useable so I will likely keep using it but it does tend to untwist while writing. Great price point tho!

Least Expensive Reusable Fountain Pen from Japan
Ah, the Platinum Preppy, the classic plastic-y fountain pen with replaceable ink cartridges... It writes very smooth for the price. There may be cheaper fountain pens, but they are not reloadable... (i.e. toss them when they run out of ink). You can also buy an optional converter that will let it load ink from bottled ink for this if you prefer not to throw stuff away. You can even buy a blunt syringe to reload spent cartridges. The selection of nibs is limited, but that's to be expected at this price range. Platinum periodically brings out "special editions" if you want more color variations, and you can always load a different color ink if you want some variety. The cap has a seal system that ensures you can still write immediately even if you leave the pen capped and idle for months. This is an ideal student pen... if the student wants something more sophisticated than the typical rollerball or gel pens. This particular one is an EF (extra fine) and has a black colorway, pretty plain, but all I need. It's actually NOT the first Platinum Preppy I own... But that's a different story. Again, cheap intro into world of fountain pens, definitely worth buying if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Practical elevated writing experience
Perfect pen if you're thinking about trying fountain pens. Not exactly a high-end writing instrument, but it's perfectly practical and feels much better than a ball point. Good pen, worth the buy.

Absolute Junk
The pens do not write!

Great purchase
Best pen ever! Inexpensive so I thought it might be sort of a "throw-away" pen and if it didn't work for very long, it wouldn't matter. Wrong. It's a really good pen with a perfect, sharp 0.2 nib that has done wonders for my urban sketching, and the best part is that it writes every single time I pick it up. I have more pricey pens that never do that! I also bought the converter as I prefer using bottled ink. Very happy with my Platinum Preppy!
