The book gives practical examples along with tips for administrators, teachers, and parents.Part 1 of the book is so full of great ideas for promoting a positive school culture (one that hopefully prevents bullying) that it is like being in one of her trainings. There are quick, simple practices that any teacher can use. In part 2, there are tools to take to help change the culture from establishing committees, to running focus groups to even a sample student survey. A MUST READ for every educator
I've been in education for over 20 years and this is simply the BEST book on Bullying Prevention. This book is full of practical, meaningful, and research based advice. I especially appreciate that Dr. Borba includes templates for everything from faculty assessment of current policy to a student bully reporting form. Dr. Borba also takes into account a multitude of related topics often overlooked in other resources including factors of teen depression, breaking the "culture of silence", and the value of a restorative justice approach. This book is MUST READ for every educator!

The Book We've Been Waiting For To Transform Our Schools
School shootings and suicide are only the tip of the iceberg. Bullying hurts all kids – the targets, the bystanders, and the ones engaging in bullying behavior. The good news is that we finally have solid research showing how schools can dramatically decrease bullying. The even better news is that Michele Borba has given us the blueprint to transform any culture in which peer cruelty and bullying are accepted into a culture that is safe and caring.End Peer Cruelty, Build Empathy reviews the research about what works to reduce bullying – for instance, classroom management, tapping the power of peers to prevent bullying, parent training – and what doesn’t work – for instance, zero tolerance and expulsion. Borba gives specific, no-cost, evidence-based steps for everything from writing an effective anti-bullying policy to educating school staff to creating a school culture in which students become upstanders rather than bystanders. What's more, changing school norms so it’s cool to be kind produces students who will make the world a better place, changing our entire society. This is an optimistic and empowering book. As Borba says, bullying behavior is learned, and it can be unlearned. Educators can turn this around. Michele Borba, who started her career as a teacher and has worked in countless schools teaching educators how to reduce bullying, is just the voice we need to inspire and lead us. Every school, every principal, every teacher needs this book.

Let's Put an End to School Violence
Author Michele Borba has spent years researching the topic of bullying and she has put her findings into this comprehensive guide for educators. The advice in this book is realistic and attainable, so that educators and other school professionals can put the steps into practice immediately. It’s disheartening to hear of programs that cost thousands of dollars to implement into a school, with the promises to reduce bullying and mean behavior. What about those buildings that can not afford it? I also am a huge fan of assemblies that promote kindness, but the action has to go beyond the one hour program in order to truly make a difference. Read about, learn and implement these 6 Rs to create the community you want to work and live in. Rules, Recognize, Report, Respond, Refuse, Replace. Thank you Dr. Borba for this amazing resource.

Empathy is so much better than more power plays
Michele Borba is masterful. Bullying is such a complex and challenging issue, and attempts to respond effectively to bullying have been breathtakingly unhelpful in the main, primarily because they rely on people with power using their power to bully the bullies. There's little or no perspective taking and empathy, and challenging behaviours are simply pushed underground. In this book Michele expertly teases apart the evidence surrounding what works and what doesn't, and provides solutions that are achievable for educators (and parents) who are genuinely interested in "helping, not hurting" bullies - and their victims. If you work in an educational context or have an interest in the challenges we face in reducing bullying, this book is well worth reviewing, internalising, and acting on.
