Conversations with Tom Petty Paperback – 4 July 2024

This is a brilliant recording of the questions and answers over many months between Tom Petty and Paul Zollo. Tom knows his own music and craft with great perception and honesty. Paul come from a place of admiration backed up with in depth research. It’s a warm, wry, sometimes funny and sad, rewarding and enlightening. The perfect read for those who don’t already know a lot about TP and a comfort for those that do. The only thing that would improve it would have been an audio version! Sadly no longer possible since Tom’s death in 2017. Many fans are hoping for a reprint of the paper version, now changing hands for extraordinary prices. A sequel would also be eagerly received. This kindle version does have all the pictures and as such is a very good substitute. Highly recommended.

A well written book by someone who really knew his subject .I could picture the conversations actually taking place . It made me understand the grit and determination of this very driven and complex man who can produce the most amazingly poetic and yet simple songs. Tom petty is a great leader of his band and truly sees the other heartbreakers as family .Hearing the struggles they went through as a band demonstrates their commitment to the music as it's still coming out so great .I Loved it !

This is a gift for my husband (haven't given it to him yet) but just browsing through it - looks very interesting - and good value for the size of book - a lot of reading material

Very interesting read, assuming you're an ardent TP & The Heartbreakers fan (which I am!). I agree with other reviewers who suggest that the second part of the book, reviewing songs, is less interesting. However, if you want to learn more about Tom Petty's career and also what goes in to producing thirty years of great songs, read this book.

Amazingly insightful conversations with Tom. Really good read.
