First, there's a huge amount of smoke here. When you apply a back fan to a burning pile, you're going to absolutely get a show. But if you don't mind that, and can control it, you're really getting an excellent forced infusion into your drinks. The thing with these tube infusers, though, is how do you get the smoke to stay in the glass--so you'll need a topper and a way to insert the tube. I used an existing top from a different smoker, and just sort of held it down while directing the nozzle into one of the holes in the existing top's flue. Didn't matter--smoke attacked that thing so much that the drink couldn't help but be infused. H*ll, I was infused come to think of it. Pretty easy to clean, but not great. You can't get every nook and cranny that you want to, so I assume it will kind of accumulate in there. But that's alright, I don't think it's making it all the way through the hose to the drink, and I can clean the hose with vinegar pretty well. The fan is pretty strong, but they don't send you any batteries (that would have been a classy touch, but alas). Overall, however, this is the one you're looking if you want a true smoked beverage. The blast of smoke is what does it, really. When you use a smoker with a regular butane torch, the smoke is slow and not very forceful, often escaping or just sitting on the surface without any pressure to enter and infuse all of the drink. This fan just blasts the whole thing up. What you end up with, despite the imagery of a lot of smoke, is a well smoked beverage that's not SUPER smoky, but also imparts that wood flavor! Most of the time I haven't noticed the wood difference in other smokers. I'm enjoying this set a lot, and it's a 5 for me.

I have a cocktail smoker kit that I was given a year ago that I used a few times and then relegated it to the pantry with the exception of the flame gun. I figured I would give this ago as it seems that it would fix the issue I had with the cocktail smoker. Issue with the cocktail smoker is since the flame is so close to the liquid you tend to get a lot of the bad qualities of the smoke and it was real acrid and not pleasant. So figured with the burn taking place so far away with this Smoker I would give it a try. After loading the batteries I got my flame gun, and some wood chips and got the product set up. I didn't have a dome, so figured I would just use cling wrap. So I cut off enough to cover the top of a highball glass. I whipped up an old fashioned and covered the top with cling and put the hose between the cling and the top of the glass and lit a very small amount of wood (little goes a long way). I engaged the fan and then put the flame to the wood, just enough to get it going and when I had sufficient smoke in the glass I shut off the fan, removed the hose and sealed the clink to the glass and let it sit. After 1/2 a minute I did a little swirl and after another 1/2 minute did a continual swirl until the smoke had pretty much dissipated. I removed the clink and then enjoyed my drink. I found the smoke was there, but more of the good qualities of smoke and less of the acrid burning taste. I am now on the lookout for a good hotel pan where I can do more large scale smoking. I can see this working well for doing larger task and doing them in waves i.e. get hotel pan and place foods in it and seal top with foil. Introduce a good shot of smoke and then walk away and come back and re-dose multiple times. Good addition to arsenal.

Love the unit but there's definitely a design flaw. The "sap" or resin left from burning wood chips gets into the fan motor and gums it up leading to premature failures. This is my 2nd unit in less than a year. I love it when it works...but for the longevity...it gets a 2. Buy 2 and get the warranty for $6...that way you always have a backup while the other is being replaced.

I already have several different types of smoker. From the outside grill type down to the type for making cocktails. I even have a couple electronic versions. But, this one is now one of my favorites. It is very compact and it is powerful. They didn't sacrifice any power by making it tiny. They could easily fit anywhere in your kitchen, even a drawer. They are barely any accessories to go with it, not much to keep track of. It is very easy to use, it functions exactly like any other model, it just may have a different appearance. There are a lot of different styles out there. This one is great because it has multiple applications. Whether it is for smoking food under a dome, or in a box, or adding smoke to a cocktail, this version is capable of doing it all. They have included everything you need in the package that you need to get started. There really is no assembly, just add some included wood chips to the top, make sure the hose and nozzle are connected, power on, and add flame to the wood chips. Smoke immediately starts pouring out of the hose, and it can be controlled by how big the fire/coal is on top. With very little practice, you can be a pro. Everything taste better smoked, and it's even better when it's freshly smoked. Overall, this is a great setup. Extra wood chips are very easily sourced, and the device itself should be around for a very long time, with proper maintenance. Very compact, powerful, affordable kitchen smoker. Highly recommended.

If you've been using lid-type smokers, you will be surprised how much more smoke this thing will create, using the same amount of wood chips. My 3 biggest gripes about it are: 1) the base is a little bit light, so it's sometimes tricky to maneuver, depending on what you're filling with smoke. 2) I wish it was rechargeable (but I'm sure that's part of the reason it's under 30 bucks) 3) it doesn't have a lid, so even when you turn it off, any remaining chips keep smoking. I deal with issue #3 by just putting a small glass on top of it, as sort of a damper, when I'm done. Aside from that, I have come to use this WAY more than my other smoker. My method is to pre-prepare a beverage (if that's a word), then fill up an old 1.75L bottle with smoke, then use a funnel to pour the beverage through the smoke, and then cap the bottle and rest it on its side for a bit. Doing it this way produces a VERY noticeable difference in flavor (and also produces a very stinky bottle after a few runs), and requires only a little pinch of wood chips. At the price point of ~$29 at time of order, this is easily a 4 star item. I would almost go 5 but I'm being super picky about that lid.
