Great for mild mid-range hearing loss
Great sound amplification for the price. I have minor hearing degradation for mid to low tones. I first purchased a well reviewed competing product that fit in the ear. It sounded as if I were tap dancing on our bamboo floors and crinkling paper almost hurt my ears because only higher frequency sounds were amplified - NOT what I needed. I ordered a pair of the Otofonix Apex hearing amplifiers but didn't expect much difference. It turned out they were perfect for my hearing loss and now my spouse asks ME to turn up the volume on the TV. I only wear the devices when watching television and plan to used them viewing movies as dialog is what I have trouble hearing. Have to admit I haven't worn them in a noisy restaurant yet. So far, after almost two weeks of wearing them I have yet to change the batteries. Battery life is incredible. Comfort is great - I forget I'm wearing them.A friend who has more profound hearing loss just spent $6,500 on hearing "aids" and thinks I wasted my money. At 1/26th the price, there's no way the Otofonix are a waste of money whey they're perfect for me!

Didn't work for me.
Received one day early, but came with the tubes for the left ear. I ordered the right ear version. Sent an email and they were very apologetic and responsive. Got the correct tubes in 2 days. The real problem is that the product just doesn't amplify. I was diagnosed with moderate hearing lose in my right ear. Audiologists don't like to give percentages, but when pressed, they told me I had 40% hearing loss. Anyway, I've tried this hearing aid in all 3 modes and all 8 volume settings and I can't tell a bit of difference. All I can hear is static with no amplification of the sounds that matter. I'm returning it.

One hearing aid is missing!
I bought these hearing aids over 3 years ago to have as a back up in case I have a problem with my Phonak aids. They come in two separate boxes; one left and one right. At the time I got them I only opened one box, the right and then tucked them away for emergencies. Well today my hearing need to go in for repair so I took these out and to my dismay the left box was empty, no aid only the instructions and tubes. I know I should have checked the box when I got it, but I didn't. I'm so disappointed and only have one aid now :-(

Good - but suggest buying next model up
The Otofonix Apex is a good entry level hearing aide. It is the first hearing aide I have every used. It is very small and light. The battery lasts for about a week, so search for a bulk pack. The sound is just OK. For speech it is fine, for music the high frequencies are totally rolled off (i.e. fair low frequency, very reduced high frequency). I believe the next model up (Elite) has an additional mode that has better high frequency output. The Elite control is also more flexible (the Apex single button requires you to step up through all of the volume steps to roll over to the low volume setting, the Elite rocker control allows you to directly go up or down in volume). This is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. I suggest paying a little more and getting more.

Great!
Just received my pair yesterday, and started using them. They replaced a pair I bought through an audiologist that cost me $5k 10 years ago, but I stopped using because they barely boosted my hearing. Don't know if my hearing worsened or the aids aren't working as well, and don't want to spend the money for the audiologist. Also, they were no longer supported for parts and could only be re-tuned/programmed by the audiologist. This pair of OTOFONIX Apex units cost me only $300, and are easily individually adjustable for programs and volume by the end user. I am shocked how effective they are even at their pre-programmed settings. I don't know how long a battery will last - will track for a few weeks to determine. Higher volume levels will probably shorten battery life, so what works for me will vary for someone else at different levels. The main housing and tubes of the aids are so small they are almost invisible. So far I'm very satisfied.

Not so great
I've had these for about a month. They don't help much with hearing conversations. They are prone to increase the levels of traffic noise, cabinet doors closing, items being put on a table, the crunching sound of walking on leaves, doors closing, etc to an obnoxious level. I tried all of the various settings as well as the different ear pieces and that didn't help. My suggestion is to save your money. The company suggests that it will take about 21 says to get used to them. For me that isn't so. These are not programmable by an audiologist which I will do with some "real" hearing aids. I gave them two stars because the are so-so and better than nothing.

Absolutely wonderful. About 8 years ago I had my hearing checked by an audiologist and was persuaded to try a pair of hearing aids that retailed for $5400.00. The set had lots of bells and whistles, but considering the godawful price I decided I could manage for awhile without them. About 5 years ago I decided my hearing had gotten enough worse that I needed to try, again. I bought an excellent pair at a discount store for $1899.00. They worked very well and were easy to use and cost a lot less than $5400.00. About 10 days ago I managed to lose one of them and decided to shop around some more to see if I could buy just one hearing aid since the other one still works well. I have to say that this little dude is every bit as good as the highest priced aids I've tried. I highly recommend this brand. Terrific sound quality at any price.

FEEDBACK, FEEDBACK, FEEDBACK
My Dad has been using hearing amplifiers for three years now, the old ones were not working properly anymore so we decided to try this brand. By the moment he put it on a very loud beep sounded, we thought it was a one time thing, but it kept the feedback going on every 10 minutes, minimum. Maybe the device is deffective right? So we returned it and ask for a replacement. Same thing happened.Long story short, we returned the Otofonix amplifier and bought the same brand he was using before.
