McGraw-Hill My Math Vol. 2, Grade 5 (ELEMENTARY MATH CONNECTS)

I started buying my own book so that I had the examples and outline of what our student had been taught in class that day, so I had the school edition showing exactly how they're taught to do each concept (I didn't want my school math to hinder our student learning the concept differently) Our student's school has been using this series for years and the continuity is great, going from volume 1 to volume 2 or even 3 within a grade and new grade level books with each successive school year.There's new math concepts in every book and each book also covers concepts from past years but more age appropriate to the current grade level.I like how each chapter's math concept starts out with a couple of examples and each example is laid out visually step-by-step and includes word directions also. That page is followed by what is basically a class practice page, followed by a page of "independent study" and lastly a series of problems using the math concept (decimals, fractions, charts & graphs, etc) in word problem format and each lesson ends with (2) double-sided pages of homework...and even the homework has a reminder example (because who ever gets to take their completed classwork home the same day, right?)Each chapter has minor quizzing, there's a concept index/dictionary in the very back & cut outs to help with concepts & wording.I wish I'd thought to do this for other family members back in the day; not only has it helped my current student immensely that I'm not confusing him with old-school math concepts & solutions but it's also helped ME learn fractions & decimals so much easier than my school days! If we'd had these books back in the day, we'd all STILL know fractions, decimals & metrics.

I always wanted to support my son with his school in his elementary years, so I asked what is their classroom textbook, and they told me about this book. Great extra support for him. Not that many explanations there but a good way to review some things from his school!
