The usual Longquan mass production katana with a few extras
In an extraordinary irony, Longquan China now produces far more Japanese styled swords then Japan probably ever did, even when they were in active use. The very developed Chinese mass production apparatus has made reasonably good quality, functional swords available for $100-$200 on Amazon. Most of these are what are called 'parts bin' swords...someone buys a box of handles, a box of fittings, and a box of blades, slaps them together and puts them up for sale...most everything is fairly interchangeable. As with anything though, there are worse ones and better ones. Practically all of them will perform in a way that is fairly similar to how a katana performed centuries ago, and due to modern steel they are usually more durable then the historical weapons (differential heat treats are far more prone to breakage than through tempered) After that long intro. Yes, this is a parts bin sword but it has three things which make it slightly different 1. This sword was given extra sharpening. Almost all Longquan made swords, including expensive ones, do not have the final honing of the edge in place. In the case of this sword there is a very small secondary bevel at the very apex. While ahistorical, it makes the edge razor sharp and adds a little extra durability 2. The blade is thicker than the usual Longquan katana 3. The sword draws more smoothly than the usual Longquan katana It (may) have a better heat treatment or better steel than usual if you trust the ad copy on the page and the attached video. There are some better steels and heat treatments occasionally used in Longquan. This sword may or may not have such a blade, but it still represents a really good value as it is.

I’m impressed?
This is an impressive looking Katana. The blade is an L6 with a HRC rating of 57. Very sharp edge. It does have a Bohi and the polish is excellent. The Hamon is quite pronounced (see pics). You’ll really like it. The blade is highlighted by copper seppas and a very attractive Tsuba. The Tsuba, Fuchi, and Kashira are all highlighted with a gold gilt. Some may think it a bit overdone, but I find the overall package very pleasing. The only criticism I can offer is a slight looseness in the Ito. You are able to move the knots, but just barely. My favorite, the Same’ is REAL and actually has what I believe to be an Emperor node which I consider a nice touch. The Ito may be real silk or imitation. I’m not sure, but its looks and feel are especially pleasing. The blade has good balance and swing’s easily. Now, the Saya! Its gorgeous ! Very slender! Not the typical tube, but a very well shaped slender affair . A Copper Gold color and black splotches intermingled as a metallic background scheme. Very unique. The Saya fittings are all black horn. The combination of the Saya, Ito, and fittings are superb. Very impressive. It arrived with a small nick in the bottom horn piece. Nothing too drastic that a magic marker couldn’t take care of, but just a bit annoying. I am very pleased with this sword and am happy to add it to my collection. Tenchesd did a fine job with this Katana! For the $, it’s an excellent value. 👏⭐️
