One of the many essential U.S. Album releases!
I'm a huge fan of The Beatles! I own The Capitol Albums Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 box sets; these original mixes by Capitol sound better than the other box sets subsequently listed here. I also own the U.S. Albums box set, the 2009 mono box set, and the 2009 stereo box set as well as various other compilations, DVDs, and solo efforts by the band members. When the U.S. Albums box set was released, I thought that it was redundant and not worth buying on its own merits. Boy, was I wrong! While I was too young to listen to The Beatles in the Sixties by a decade, I can fully appreciate how longtime fans would want and love the release of the U.S. Albums box set finally. Meet The Beatles!, The Beatles' Second Album, A Hard Day's Night (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), Something New, Beatles '65, The Early Beatles, Beatles VI, Rubber Soul, and Yesterday And Today are absolutely essential! I'd also recommend Hey Jude, especially, because of the tracks and flow of the music. There's a reason why Hey Jude went to #1 in the U.K. a decade after The Beatles disbanded! Unlike the Parlophone (or EMI) U.K. releases, Capitol Records included the singles on The Beatles' U.S. albums.A Hard Day's Night (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) was the most anticipated U.S. album release on CD. It's obviously different than the Parlophone release of A Hard Day's Night because it is missing five vocal tracks that were on the U.K. version of A Hard Day's Night. Some of those missing tracks did appear on Something New and other U.S. albums though. The U.S. version of A Hard Day's Night has eight vocal tracks and four instrumental tracks on it. Three of the four instrumental tracks are also vocal tracks on the album, with Ringo's Theme (This Boy) being the only exception. I think A Hard Day's Night (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is just as enjoyable as the U.K. release of A Hard Day's Night. The original mono soundtrack is finally available in CD format, too, as well as a stereo version of the soundtrack. Both are brilliant!Personally, my favorite U.S. album releases are Meet The Beatles!, A Hard Day's Night (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), Beatles '65, and Rubber Soul. I think it's a toss up between Meet The Beatles! and Beatles '65 as far as the best U.S. album.ADDITIONAL NOTE: I bought the Criterion Collection's remastered, re-released dual DVD, A Hard Day's Night, too! I highly recommend that!FINAL NOTES: I recommend buying The Capitol Albums Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 box sets before they go completely out of print. I also recommend buying the following U.S. albums from the U.S. Albums box set: A Hard Day's Night (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack); Yesterday And Today (for the butcher cover and, of course, for the music); and Hey Jude. If you don't already own the U.K. version of Revolver, then buy that version because it is The Beatles' greatest album in a peerless discography and the U.S. Album version of Revolver chops off three songs. Technically, Magical Mystery Tour is also a U.S. Album release. Capitol released Magical Mystery Tour in the Sixties to "pad out" the U.K.'s EP version of it. Notice how Magical Mystery Tour "only" has 11 tracks on it? EMI/Parlophone liked Capitol's release so much that they made it part of their U.K. discography. It's a shame that lawsuits prevented the release of The Capitol Albums Vol. 3 box set, but this is the best way to complete their U.S. album releases!

A Hard Dayβs Night extras
This is a partial soundtrack to the film. It contains the songs from the film and some music by George Martin. The Beatles own HDN album is songs only. The selling point of this CD is, I think, the orchestral arrangements of the relevant Beatle tunes. There are only 3 or 4 but definitely worth hearing.George Martin made other Beatle related albums. Find them and enjoy.NIgel

"Will make me feel alright..."
Finally, the Capitol Records CD version of the movie soundtrack of The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" has been released. This was a delight to hear on vinyl and even better than ever in this format many years later. For listeners that are not familiar with the album's song list, this is the original movie soundtrack from the film. The record includes twelve album tracks that include a blend of the most memorable Beatles songs and instrumental versions and a few treats for fans that have watched the film more than a number of times, this album as opposed to the British Parlophone version has the alternate and slightly extended version of "I'll Cry Instead" and the unforgettable instrumental of "Ringo's Theme (This Boy)." And for the album artwork and liner notes, exactly a copy but smaller and compact version from the original, which includes who starred in the film besides The Beatles, Wilfred Brambell, Produced by Walter Shenson, Directed by Richard Lester, Screenplay by Alun Owen, Released thru United Artists, and Musical Director George Martin.Indeed, this may be a great addition to any Beatles fan's record collection even if the songs been heard more than once some time in any fan's lives. Who would not want to hear the ever so popular songs of the title track to "Can't Buy Me Love" in both mono and stereo sound?

Mono tracks are horribly compressed and the Stereo tracks sound great, but this CD is different from the original LP's
When I first started playing this, the first song "A Hard Day's Night", was playing in MONO, and I thought that they did this the same as the original United Artists soundtrack LP. Then, when it got to the first George Martin track, surprise!, it was in MONO. I thought WTF! On the original Stereo release, The Beatles Tracks were all MONO and the George Martin tracks were all stereo. I thought, wait a minute here, maybe..........let me skip to track 13. Bang! "A Hard Day's Night" was in stereo! As was all the George Martin tracks and only "I'll Cry Instead" was in MONO. I knew that this CD contained the stereo AND MONO mixes of the original LP, but I didn't expect the horribly compressed MONO version first. I must say, having the original release of this album on stereo and MONO vinyl, I was shocked to hear how horrible the MONO part of the CD sounded compaired to the original vinyl. As I mentioned previously, on the original stereo LP release, ALL The Beatles tracks were MONO. I'm sure glad that they corrected that horrible error and updated the album. The MONO tracks are horribly, horribly compressed. When you compare the MONO to the stereo tracks, you'll find that there is quite a difference between the two and in the MONO tracks, you'll notice that there is quite a bit missing.

Just what I was looking for
I didn't dislike anything. It was perfect. I owned the Beatles album collection on vinyl and mono so getting them in both formats on U.S. versions this sounded exactly as I remember hearing them growing up!

LOVE IT, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH
Despite the fact that I already have all of the Beatles albums, in multiple editions I had to buy these American LP's simply because I'm a Beatle nut and I had to have them. OK most of the albums are substandard to the original UK versions but this album is actually more faithful to the movie than the original UK album. For one thing you get all of the instrumentals from the movie (the US Help album is the same) which means this is actually like new Beatle product...that is if your in the UK and never had the US Beatle albums before. The album is presented twice on this disc - once in a mono mix and then in a stereo version which I think is something Capitol have done right, making them better value than the official 2009 remasters which only featured one version of each album.Another thing Capitol have done right is the CD packaging - each album comes in a CD sized replica of the original album and I prefer this to the 2009 remasters packages. They seem stronger and looking identical to the original albums gives them a great nostalgic feel. Of course the UK originals are the best option for Beatle fans but the US albums (with the exception perhaps of the US Revolver which is pants) are well worth owning.

A Hard Day's Night's All Right!
I bought this CD to replace my audio-cassette copy which had gone wonky. This USA soundtrack album is a mix of Beatles recordings and tasteful arrangements of their tunes by their producer, George Martin. "I'll Cry Instead" is the oddity as it was pulled from the film before cinema release and, also, because it has been edited to be a verse longer than the original version as released in the UK.I like Martin's instrumentals, especially his treatment of "And I Love Her" and his jazzy version of the title track. if you prefer, you could programme your CD player to separate the Bealtes and Martin material, as per the "Yellow Submarine" soundtrack LP from 1969.This CD is terrific value as you get two albums on one disc - the mono version followed by the stereo. To be honest, I would have been happy with just the mono album. From the striking opening chord of the title track, the music as heard in punchy mono captures the excitement of the film itself.

Fab Instrumentals
Well, surely you've already got these tracks (the 1987 or 2009 versions) but if you don't or fancy the US. Version why should you pay Β£10 for only 8 beatles tracks instead of the UK 13 track version? Well the answer is obviously the 4 instrumental tracks - they are absolutely brilliant! If you like groovy 60s instrumentals then you will love these wonderfully arranged tracks. I've even been skipping the Beatles tracks (which are obviously legendary but very familiar) and only playing the instrumentals. I would recommend this album to Beales fans who want something a little quirky and unusual.
