Optimo crown, "Charlie Chan" style fedora hat in shantung panama straw. The straw hat bodies used in the making of this hat are ultra high quality, 3BU 2x2 weave shantung panama straws. All Levine Shantung Panama hats are DuPont Teflon treated, meaning that they are durable to prevent cracking, and moisture resistant, including resistance to stains, oil from your fingers and water resistant. Whereas other straw hats will lose their shape when subjected to rain and oils, these hats repel those materials. This iconic colonial hat style is famously associated with many Hollywood actors and great films. Famous examples: Sean Connery in "The Man Who Would Be King" and "Just Cause", Paul Newman in "Mr. and Mrs. Bridge", Sidney Greenstreet in "Casablanca" and Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird." This hat is trimmed with a basic gentleman's black grosgrain bow band. The band is sewn onto the hat, creating a finished look. The hat band is approximately 1-inch wide, creating a classic look. This width is ideal in case you want to purchase other hook on hat bands to match other colors in your outfit. The Levine Casa Blanca Optimo Crown Fedora Hat features a comfort cotton sweat band on the interior, which wicks away sweat and keeps you cool and dry. After a few wears, this band is self-conforming, meaning that it will begin to form to the shape of your head. The hat is unlined for maximum breathability and comfort; it is ideal for Spring and Summer wear. Made in USA.

A bargain, considering the quality, the fit, and the price.
I have been shopping for an Optimo shape Panama hat off and on for some time. I am not really a Panama hat snob, insisting that it be made in Ecuador. This one is made in the USA. Actually, I rather like the concept if the quality is up to snuff. The hat came well packaged with the brim turned up as in the picture. Since I am not Charlie Chan, I didn't want to wear it that way. So, I turned the brim down. It left the brim just a bit wavy. Good thing I knew the "steam" trick. I steamed the brim over the kitchen stove, and it smoothed up nicely.A Panama hat snob could easily get into over $300 for some Panamas, depending on its grade...Fino, Super Duper Fino, etc. It may have said in the description what this one was, but I don't recall. It is very similar to a Bailey Panama I have in terms of the weave.I am very pleased with the quality and the fit and the price. At $109 I think it is a real bargain. Plus, they had it in stock. Some Panama hats may take a couple of months to be made after ordering.

Love this lid
This is the hat I've been looking for, the classic style you see in old movies with the distinctive traditional panama crown shape. The hat is extremely well-made and the Teflon coating is a big improvement over the original. I got caught in the rain yesterday while wearing the hat and the raindrops rolled right off.

Great hat
This is a very nice, well-made hat and it fits as expected. The reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 is the condition it arrived in - it looked like a very large gorilla sat on it. The brim was crumpled and the crown had several dents even though it was shipped in a cardboard box that was not damaged. That tells me it was in this condition before shipping. The good news is that after 10 minutes of steaming, I was able to return it to some semblance of a panama hat. Another 10 minutes or so of steaming should straighten everything out. I would buy it again - just be aware that you will probably need to do some reconstructive surgery.

Great Hat and Waterproof
Nice hat and it looks great. Light and comfortable. The color is more like an ivory color than natural. It is not a soft hat, but rather "hard." I was attracted by the waterproof quality since it is not always certain that it will not rain.

Quality control wavering?!
Hat arrived today but no “Levine” box as depicted on Amazon. Hat was wrapped in plastic and the crown was smushed in, even though the shipping box showed no sign of damage. So, the crown and side are not ‘smooth and straight’ but creased and crooked. I will see if they improve with some time but if not Amazon/Levine can expect to do an exchange. Outside of that, it appears to be well made and does look nice (overlooking aforementioned issues). If the thing smoothies out or I get a good exchange it would be a Five Star rating easy.

Not a Bubble hat
Insane quality for the price. Easily a $200 hat if marked Ecuador. What's more is that most Óptimo hats sold today are blocked differently. They are strait sided and "bubble out" at the crown, think a Jiffy pop on the stove. Not this one. It tapers in a at the top giving you a sharp classic look. Best deal out there today

Great Hat!
I really like this hat. Couple of things though.Bought this 3 years ago and love it. I wear a 7 1/4 so I ordered the large. Too big. Had to buy a sizer, also from Amazon and it worked well. It blew off my head on the lake and got wet. Now the brim won't straighten out. I've tried everything. Oh well, I'll buy another. It was about $20.00 cheaper 3 years ago but I think the price is still good for this quality and appearance.

A mailed ordered hat that is better than expected
This a very nice hat that is Teflon coated and really made in the USA. In person, it looks better than the picture, and is a hat that feels good on your head. I look forward to wearing this hat for years, and expect it to last that long given the quality of manufacturing quality.
