Medal of Honor delivers yet again!
I pre-ordered European Assault on Amazon and recieved it on friday and I have been playing it non stop. This is one fine game I must say, the gameplay's excellent and the guns' enviroments, sound effects and musical score are very authentic adding to the overall experiance. They've followed more along the lines of Call Of Duty, you can only carry 2 guns at a time, you are accompanied by 3 soldiers who act as your team mates and there's more interaction with the enviroment to complete the missions. The missions are set in Russia, Africa and you even take part in the Battle of the Bulge. Now when I say "Team mates!" I know what your thinking, lame CPU controlled morons who just get in the way making your easy job impossible! Well not in this game they're not. What's good about them is during search and destroy missions involving close quarters. If your low on health or ammo you can order them to go in first and they will attack the enemy with vigour. Now okay sometimes they can be very "trying" in that when you try to heal them they keep running around making the task awkward as hell and during battle this can be very irritating, they also tend to run straight into your firing line during fire fights, I've unintentionall blown their heads off at least 3 times now, however if they survive your rewarded with medkits at the mission summary which you start off with from the start of the next mission. This game could have done with a decent multi-player function, while it does have multi-player you can't play single player death-matches, if you want to play death-matches you'll need a mate because 2 player is required at the least. Also I'm surprised there's not a Net-Play function like in "Rising Sun", I thought most new games had internet play but guess I was wrong. This lack of multi-player abilities does make the game seem small and contained but that doesn't take anything away from the campaign missions, they're cool. To summarise this is a game for those who love 1st person shooters which keep you on the move. Medal Of Honor just gets better and better.

Very good FPS
This game is a MASSIVE improvement on Rising Sun, the graphics are better and there are more levels. Whilst the Call of Duty franchise remains the best WW2 shooting series, European Assault is actually a very good game. There are 11 missions in all, taking you across France, Africa, Russia and Belgium. You experience a wide range of environments from a French town to the snowy and chaotic battle of the Bulge. By far the best thing about this game is the new aiming machinery and the detail of the guns. Old shooters like Frontline and Rising Sun allow you to aim, but effectively just zoom in. However, European Assault lets you use the aiming vision unique to each gun. Blasting your way through an underground base with a shotgun is extremely fun. There are other new quirks such as the adrenaline meter and Nazi Nemesis (basically a boss), and the feel of each level is a lot more focused on the battle environment. Whilst it would have been nice to see a few more levels, this FPS is on the whole a really fun game. However, nothing will ever be as good as Frontline in my opinion!!!

MOH European Assault - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
THE GOOD: Great spralling levels (no single pathway like in previous games. Good SFX and interesting missions (have to discover additonal objectives by exploring the level. THE BAD: Idiot team members who run around like headless chickens getting killed. Ammo & health pick ups get dropped by dead enemies but are long gone by the time you can make an area safe to go and get them. Every level has you picking up a secret document and killing a German Officer as part of your mission. No real connective story like in previous games. Guns (Russian guns especially) are woefully inaccurate. The game seems to conjure enemies out of thin air if you complete an objective with too much health! THE UGLY: On some levels, depsite the fact you are part of a large attack, the enemies seem to be focused on you alone. On one level you are hit with deadly accuracy from machine guns so far away you can't see them.Same goes for heavy artillery that seems to land wherever you seem to be. Shockingly awful health system. You spend most of the game with between 30-50% health and being in the green never lasts long. There is a system of lives that revives you on the same spot you die which means if you were caught unaware or in a hail of bullets from a machine gun miles away you immediatly lose a load of health or die before you can move. Also you only get revived with 50% health. The health system along with the abilty of the enemies to kill you before you can even see them make the longer levels really frustrating to complete.

What a shame
I am a great lover of all the Medal of Honour games, but this why I have to say could possibly even been deemed as worse than Rising Sun. The gameplay has yes improved dramatically and is great fun but unfortunatley I have to agree a clone of Call of Duty. However I did think that Call of Duty was an extremely good game but I don't want to play a game with basically the same experiance as another. The main problem though was the length of the game it only has 11 misions!! most of which are quite short aswell,(the shortest MOH game yet) it only took me a few hours before I had finished it!! And the other problem is it's really easy. Personnally i think that if the game was double its length i would be writing a much better review but unfortunatley because of this let down this was a dissapointing game and what i felt a waste of 30 pounds for a few hours of gameplay. If you are addicted to MOH anyway like me you should get it just so you don't feal like you have missed out on something but that is the only plausable reason i could come up with for someone to buy this game but it's completely up to you.
