Love the train set. It has rechargeable battery for powering the engine. Needs two AA batteries for remote. Remote works great, able to change speed forward and backward with variable speed. Sounds like a train running. Whistle is good. Best part is that it proves steam too. One compartment has inner lights with its built in battery.Though placing train set correctly on the track is difficult for kids but it’s a fun to play with it. Build is not that great but it’s good for the price.

Brought it for Xmas gift.GOD child is enjoying it

Wanted to have a train set around the Christmas tree. Overall this works great for what I wanted as a decor piece. Keep in mind this doesn't go very fast so not sure if it would be worth getting for a child. The thing that I was not a fan of was the sounds. I could not find a way to turn off the default sound when it is on and the horn button is horrible sounding in my opinion. It would have been great if I could just have the train run without artificial sound being pumped out every time I turned it on.

On-off switch broke with first operation, very unhappy little boy

I don’t write reviews often, but had to make an exception for this. I got this for my nephew’s 4th birthday and it’s definitely not worth the money.The tracks are really flimsy and don’t stay together well, the train is only powerful enough to pull one car and if you try to add more it derails itself. The lights, sounds and smoke are a nice touch, but even those aren’t enough to keep a 4yo entertained when it won’t function how it’s supposed to. The $15 character Christmas trains at Walmart are even better quality than this.

The battery is crap.

When this train set works, it's really cool!The remote control does a great job allowing you to adjust the train's speed both in forward motion and reverse, control the train whistle, and turn the smoke stack on and off.The train has sounds that correlate with the speed of the train which is a wonderful, though robotic sounding, addition.The track is customizable including switches to change the track directions, however I have yet to be able to successfully change the track direction without derailing the train.This is one of 2 reasons I can only give 3 stars to this set. The train derails so easily. The track and train can be set up and running seamlessly only to derail itself moments later when literally nothing has touched the track or the train.The train has a rechargeable battery hidden in the coal car which is a nice addition. However, when connecting the battery to the engine, I have to push very firmly to make the connection secure. I also cannot turn the on/off switch on the engine all the way to the on position or the train won't work. I have to switch it on, and then pull the switch back slightly to make it work.A fun and entertaining set when it works.
