Chokes your fish! Fine dust constantly released into water. Horrible gravel!
This white roman gravel is horrendous and the worst ive ever bought! It will not stop leaking white powder dust into tank water no matter how much you it!I washed it 20 times before leaving the tap to run water over it for 2 hours then left it soaking in a bucket over night before rinsing another 5 times. Water still not clear! But i added it carefully to the fish tank one handful at a time only to find the water a cloudy mess! It didnt settle and after 5 hours i found all my fish distressed coughing and choking and trying to jump out of the tank! This horrible gravel made them ill !I ended up removing the lot out of the fishtank and move my fish into another hospital tank while i changed the entire water to get rid of it. Even after a full water changed the filters were releasing dust particles back into the water so even the filters dont filter the crap that comes off this gravel. Ive thrown the gravel over the fence onto my flower borders and my cat is using it as cat litter. Its all its good for, to poo in!I will never buy it again its just awful 👎

colour popping
Purchased two bags of this in different colours for a top layer on my cactus/succulent pots. The white stones are about 1cm big, in comparison the blue is small. For a fish tank I guess the blue might be more likely to get sucked into the pump? However the blue colour pops. I quickly washed it until the water ran clear before adding it to the pots. Not much dust came off but some did. I don’t know much about fish tanks, but they cheered up my plant arrangements.

Just the Ticket....
Update 23/1/2016 : I am happy to say that the gravel is still perfect after 18 months, might of faded a little bit, but not noticeable. I am still happy and so are the fish.Cant fault this, arrived on time and as described. The gravel will need a clean just as anything you put in the tank should, but it is not dirty like some other gravels , so grab a bag, empty it into a bucket, place bucket at an angle, grab your garden hose, place in the bottom and turn it on, leave for around 20 minutes and every now and again mixing up the gravel.Once you have done this, cover the gravel with fresh water, add some de-clorinator and leave to soak for a bit. drain off the water and you are ready to add to your tank.Tank was crystal clear after adding, and no changes to water chemistry and looks stunning in my Fluval Roma 240. it took 3 x 8 Kg bags to give a nice 1 inch at the front and 1.5 to 2 at the back covering.I am very happy, so are my Fish.....Edit : Picture also added.

Ideal gravel for any aqaurium
I have this gravel in my other fish tank and it stops the fish waste from getting underneath it as it is so fine. So yes it's a lot easier to clean and I personally think it looks great. Even when you prewash it there is pretty much no colour coming off unlike some cheaper alternatives which can make your water look murky. This Is ideal and a wide range of colours too.

Not as shown
I chose the 'mixed gems' option, hoping to add some flair to the sand in my tank. I usually buy pettex substrate and I do expect there to be some variation, but they need to update the picture! I was expecting more pea sized and smaller pieces in largely earthy tones, as the picture shows. Instead the bag was full of glaringly white chunky gravel pieces with the occasional odd chunk of red or tan gravel mixed with smaller occasional chips of dark slate. It looks like someone spilt a little bit of drive way gravel into a bag of white aquarium gravel. Not the look I was hoping for. Anyway, I will use for drainage in plant pots but not for the aquarium. It really is better to buy when you can see it sometimes!

'Jet Black' is actually lead grey and there is inconsistency in the quality of coating between batches.
I bought 8kg sacks of ‘jet black’ for my tank, they arrived and once I had put it in the tank it was clear that this isn’t ‘jet black’ it is more a sort of pencil lead grey. I have a large tank and it was soon apparent that I would need another 2 bags to get my gravel level where I needed it. I had now already invested £26 in the gravel so I just accepted I would be stuck with lead grey and took the plunge ordering another £26 worth of gravel. The second batch of gravel arrived as before I lightly rinsed it and put it in the tank, only when it was in the tank did I notice that much of the new gravel was actually showing small patches of white, clearly this batch hadn’t be coated as well. The result is lead grey gravel with some whiter bits showing through, not the look I was going for to be honest. It’s not the end of the world but I’ve spent £52 on it so I hoped it would at least be consistent ! Now I want to build up some more gravel on one side of the tank, so I need to order some more gravel and I feel that to maintain the look of the tank I have no other option than to order another sack.If I could send it back and get a refund I would but I doubt they’ll be interested in a large sack of gravel that’s been in my tank.On the plus side this gravel needed very little washing, in fact I reckon I could have just put it in the tank from the bag, however, don’t do that, give it rinse to be safe ! I haven’t got any discoloured water either so seems good on that front too.In summary, I’m disappointed it didn’t give me the ‘jet black’ look I was after and I’m also disappointed in the consistency in quality. If the second batch had been well coated I could have forgiven the lead grey look.

Recommended. Complimentary on natural tank
Great looking gravel.I've ordered the wrong colour and did not want purple!I layered it with some beach style stones and it looks amazing. The purple compliments the natural tank well which i did not expect. The bag was a great size, the gravel was clean and did not require much cleaning before use (but be safe and soak thoroughly regardless)Arrived quickly. All in all happy purchase

Looks great in my pot
I used 2 bags for my half barrel fish pond.which is 60 cms wide x 47 high.I washed them first in a bucket with the hose on them, now I can see my 3 almost black fish.I couldn't see them before as my gravel was a dark charcoal. It's good to look at your fishes colours to see if they work together this can make all the difference.I have added 3 photos
