I bought this cable so that I could charge my 3800mAh extended battery for my Baofeng. The cable works very well. What I liked: ✅ Enables usb charging cabability ✅ Long enough to not be awkward when charging from power bank ✅ Decent quality and feel Things to Know: - Not as fast as charging from dock - USB-A not USB-c Final thoughts: If you have the extended 3800mAh battery for your Baofeng, this cable is an excellent add to your kit. It gives you the ability to recharge your battery in the field from a USB Type A connection, whether a power bank or a wall charger.

Plugged in a high quality usb wall charger, then this cable to the Baofeng BL-5L power plug opening. Fit nicely, not loose and in solid. Measured battery voltage prior to trying cable. Then set timer for 10 minutes after plugging in. Watched measured voltage climb as battery charged thru cable. Purchased 4 of these excellent cables and all performed flawlessly. One mention though, you can monitor with radio on while charging, however, DO NOT TRY TRANSMITTING! The voltage will backtrack thru the cable and overload your USB wall plug. Fortunately, my USB wall charger has internal surge protection. The minute I transmitted with charge cable inline, the protected green light on USB wall charger went off. It cut the signal as it should have. Unplugged from wall outlet and waited 1 min for it to reset, which it did. Went into charge mode, after 10 minutes, I turned on radio and hit the transmit, cut the power again. Apparently, you cannot "use" the radio in transmit while charging with this cable. It is not a power supply but a charging cable. Well made and the light on top works 100%. Green when plugged into USB charge device, Red while charging radio, green when complete. Must have excellent wiring internally. I fully charged a new BL-5L, which ships usually 1/3 charged. It topped off the 3800 mAh to full charge in less than 1 hour. Very impressive 8.48 volts when finished, after letting it sit for 10 min before measuring voltage. Never got warm to the touch either. Glad I purchased 4 of them while available.

Works as advertised, but if the plug side that goes into the battery is rotated while plugged in, the charge will drop intermittently due to a loss of contact. The easy way to fix this i've found is to take a needle and bend the two metal contacts on the 2.5 mm plugs towards the center of the yellow ring/middle of the plug. Not all the way mind you, but so that they aren't tucked into the little recess anymore, then they will work great. I have only had my charger for a couple days, so hopefully the step up transformer on the other end of the plug doesn't burn out too quickly and it lasts at least 50 charges. I wrapped that end in electrical tape to make it more solid because it is pretty flimsy, but left the led showing. Tape and pin bends make Huge improvement.

I like to convenience of plugging directly into the radio. Eliminates the need for charging stand. Using it on my larger battery.

So far they work. The LED is red while charging. It turns green when done. I prefer this over the base chargers. They offer more charging flexibility. The charge time is really a matter of the USB port you are using. Not all USB adapters put out the same power. They work on my BF UV-5R8W without any issues!

The charging cables bring the batteries up to 8.39V just like the charging cradle. I ordered two just in case one didn't work ($5 c'mon) and I'm happy. It is true that you have to rotate the connector to get a "red charge light" but that's just the way the connectors in the BATTERY are, and it's consistent, so... Besides, you're not suppose to have the radio on when charging (RTFM) so charging on the desk or car seat is very realistic. Great product, great price.

While charging the radio, the cable produces a lot of RF and the connector has to be in just right for it to work. fixed the connector by bending the centre pins in a little but the RF is going to take a bit more work. i do not recommend this cable, it needs RF shielding around the usb housing with a capacitor to filter out the noise on the 10v side
