I bought this for my 2 indoor cats. It does hold 50 lbs of dry food. I'm disabled with both health and mobility issues. I needed something that I could load up once a month or 2 months. So no matter how I'm feeling I know my fur babies always have access to food whenever they're hungry. I did drill out the clear plastic flap as it's an indoor only feeder and will not need that weather guard. I had other smaller gravity feeders. 1 for each cat. They were hard to fill and they lasted for about 2 weeks, the food would stick at the entrance and I'd have to bend down and give it a shake to get the feed dislodged and flowing again. This feeder there is no problem at all! Food falls freely from the hopper to the feed tray without overflowing. The mouth is large enough that both cats tend to eat together with no fighting or shoving each other out of the way. They took to this feeder right away. The lip of the try is nice and tall so I'm not getting dry food spills all around it. Access to the hopper to refill is soooooo easy and huge. I can easily pour the 25 lbs bag that I buy right in and it also has easy clamp side locks. I really love this gravity feeder. I realize it's pretty huge and not everyone has that kind of space in their home, but this thing is great if you do. It would be good as an outdoor feeder but I'd probably put it under a covered area even though it does come with the heavy duty plastic weather protection door. I just don't know if that's the right thing to do as you're going to attract a bunch of animals for a free meal as there's no way to lock it down that I can tell. Could be because I did remove the plastic door before use and if there's a lock for it, it might me there. This has been the best gravity feeder ever. And it is all metal aside from that plastic weather door. The con. There are only 2 that I can attest to. 1. The assembly is awful! There's a lot of tiny nuts and bolts. There's what feels like a ton of them and linning everything up with the unit being so bulky and heavy an awkward it's just hard and will take you some time. Watch the video first before assembly, it does help. I paid my friend's son to do the assembly as he's too young to get a real job, but always looking for ways to earn some fun money. He loves assembling things and by the end of putting this together he was ready to throw the feeder out the window. LOL! He did a great job, but it was cumbersome and aggravating. 2. The lip on the feed tray part. I love the high lip as it keeps the dry food in the tray and not on my floor. However, I wanted to raise the feeder off the floor a bit as the vets and pet experts all say that it's better to have your pets food lifted off the floor for them. I'd like to lift it 3 or 4 inches off the floor but the lip is so high it would create a problem with them accessing it. Anything lower then 3 inches just won't make a difference for them. I thought about bending or maybe cutting the lip down, but it's pretty heavey duty metal and I don't want to leave and sharp edges. So I'm just going to leave it alone. I highly recommend this feeder. You don't have to load 50lbs of food in it either. I do 25lbs as that's the size my cats food bag comes in and it works just fine.
