I needed one size to tap a small branch line into a larger pvc drain. It worked well for this. I can't speak for use in steel but I suspect it would work fine for the " seldom tapper".

I bought this for cleaning up dirty or slightly damaged threads for plumbing. Its a nice little kit. I've only used it on brass, copper and some steel so I don't know how durable its gonna be for heavy or sustained use applications. But for mine it's working great so far.
